Arturia 1090-67 Overview
Available for download, the Arturia Synthi V emulates the classic EMS synths born out of Britain in the 1970s. It models the Synthi AKS and VCS3, some of the first hardware synths to provide modular functionality in a portable form factor. These synths were used on songs like On the Run from Pink Floyd's seminal Dark Side of the Moon. This synth fosters experimentation in your composition and sound-design endeavors, giving you multiple forms of manipulation and an intrinsically fat yet edgy tone.
Though the instrument's inherent tone and functionality have been modeled for authenticity, Arturia has given the classic synth digital enhancements to better fit modern production styles. These include a modern step sequencer, a beat-syncable LFO section, and a bevy of built-in effects. You can tweak every single parameter thanks to a matrix modulation section. Furthermore, the synth can now handle 4-voice polyphony, allowing you to make more complex chords.
The Synthi V will provide interesting sounds in both studio and live environments. It's compatible with Mac and Windows platforms, and can operate as a standalone instrument or as an AU, VST2, VST3, NKS, or AAX Native plug-in within your DAW.
Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sound
- Enhanced VCOs: Synthi V's oscillators can quantize pitch to semitones and hard-sync VCO2 to VCO1. Or, control-drag on the knobs to make fine adjustments.
- Put a pin in it: Patch audio and control signals to destinations by clicking on the virtual pinboard. Sources and destinations are highlighted as you go.
- Pintastic: Use a special group pin to route several signals to several places at once in the Advanced Panel.
- Sample and hold: Arturia added a sample-and-hold generator with its own row in the pin matrix, for cool nonlinear modulation effects.
- Synced on the run: The legacy sequencer has been preserved in all its glory, only now, it optionally syncs to MIDI or your host DAW's project tempo.
- Ready player one: Assign each axis of the joystick to any destination you choose.
- Attenuator pins: The hardware used special pins if you wanted less of an audio or control signal to go somewhere. Click-and-hold on a pin to choose one.
Presets and Tags
- Synthi V comes with an extensive library of leads, basses, textures, sound effects, and more.
- It's always easy to find the sound for which you're looking because the preset browser displays categories and tags. You can organize your own patches using this same elegant system.
