Thermaltake Gravity i2 CPU Cooler

I had a Frankensteined desktop PC with an ASUS M3N72-D motherboard and an AMD Phenom 9650 Quad Core 2.3 GHz CPU. Basically, the previous owner used a water cooling system (pump and radiator) to cool the processor. It failed and was causing the system to randomly shut down after 30 or so seconds of turning on. Not being a fan of this method of cooling due to the high failure rate, I decided to replace it with a fan and heat sink, which are more guaranteed to last longer. Buyer beware! Those of you who have this same make/model motherboard will have to hack/modify the threaded mounting bracket in order to get this to work. By that, I had to literally take a Dremel tool and cutting disc to 2 opposite corners of the bracket. I did this because ASUS didn't have holes pre-drilled on the board to accommodate the new bracket and if you leave the corners in-tact, they will dig into the traces on the underside of the board and short them out. So cutting those unused corners off is the only option. Unfortunately, this does void the warranty and for sure you will not be able to return it for a refund after the fact. You also have to take the time and remove the same 2 corner spring-loaded screws on the fan/heat sink assembly. If you don't, the tips of those screws will dig into the top side of the motherboard and short out the traces. So, in short, I got the machine repaired. The fan works, it's cooling the CPU, so far no random shut offs. Yes, I will buy again if I needed another one. The price is good, too.
