HP 17.3" OMEN 17-db0039nr Gaming Laptop

Awesome laptop. Needs 32 for memory to be perfect because it takes a little longer for loading without it. Need easir way to reach casting and wifi buttons but that is a windows thing, not HP. Work flawlessly, no hiccups, stsys pretty cool (improved ventilation), comfortable to use and plenty of storage.

Pounced on a massive discount sale of this laptop (€2,199) April 18, 2024. NO REGRETS, except I should have bought more at that price, but had my doubts such a bargain was real. IT WAS REAL! A laptop version NVIDIA 4090 makes optical flow w speed warp FASTER and bearable. It ~doubled the render speed (in fps) of Speed Warp (from my 3080 laptops). Makes 60°, 8K timeline editing FASTER. Will still bog down on excessive/intensive nodes on the Color and Fusion Pages.

13th gen i9 with 32gb ram, 2tb SSD, and a RTX 4090 for this price is insane! Works great! I immediately upgraded it to 64gb. No issues using cheap silicon power 5600 RAM. Computer is super fast. Fans can be noisy when you're gaming, but that's to be expected on a 4090 in a cramped space. Loving it! Screen is nice and big. Audio is average. Keyboard has great feel and 4 zone RGB is good enough for me. Backlit keys are easy to read. 0 issues so far. It's been running almost 24/7 (I tirned off sleep mode).

This is my 3rd generation HP Omen laptop. I have two i7 CPU: one with 1060GPU, another one with 2070 Max GPU, and now 17inch with i9 CPU with 4090 GPU. I never had any major issue (1st one was even refurbished one), and has good experience with HP Omen laptops. My previous laptops are now pretty slow when it comes to video rendering/3D rendering /VR video rendering along with Photoshop use (running at the same time mostly). Not to mention newer games demand more GPU power. When this laptop was on sale for €2,200, I decided to grab this one. HP Website sells the same model for €2,859.99, now. This laptop is a beast. The very first thing I noticed was power brick. It's huge. I first thought it was external CD/DVD player, but it was about 3x in thickness. I then noticed 330W. Faster CPU and GPU requiring that much power.... I don't think this laptop can be charged via Thunderbolt port due to the power requirement. Laptop looks sleek and modern, but has sharp 4 corners (since my 2070 GPU Omen). It does poke you into your arm time to time. Thermal management is pretty good. It does get pretty warm when rendering video (more so than playing game), but never too hot. Fan is very silent. This laptop comes with a support apps that shows current temp of CPU and GPU, so that's helpful. I also have very strong laptop cooler that's louder than neighbor's leaf blower on Sunday morning, but cool down CPU/GPU about 10-20f degree. Here is what I found out so far after 1 day of usage: Likes: 1. Fast - fast CPU and GPU. On installed 2TB NVME, I'm getting about 6800MB/s read and 5200MB/s write on Crystal benchmarks (1907GB Western Digital NVME). I see 2nd slot, so storage is expandable (fast PCI Express 4). 2. Killer GPU and CPU - Played RDRII at all ULTRA settings. No dropped frame and no lags. I think I must getting over 60fps since it's buttery smooth. Cyberpunk 2077 plays buttery smooth too with all max out setting. I now able to render very demanding 3D and VR video in background while running a game! This was unthinkable with 2070 Max GPU. No crashing of rendering and no annoying GPU memory error. 3. Fast refresh rate screen - 165 Hz 4. Plenty of ports - 3 USB A, 1 Thunderbolt (USB C), 1 Display port, 1 HDMI port, 1RJ45 port, Earphone/mike jack, and SD card slot (I like full size SD card slot rather than small mini SD slots on slim laptop - for most of my camera uses full size SD cards (and you can use adapter for mini SD cards). 5. Pretty good audio quality (says Bang Olufsen) 6. Excellent value - Thank you !!! Don't likes 1. Heavy - it could be just me since I'm so used on LG Gram 17 which I can carry with two fingers. 2. Sharp edge - side edges and corner are sharp. Not very comfort if you are grabbing on edge. 3. Battery life - last only about an hour with video rendering. Basically this laptop is desktop with big power brig. 4. Light bleeding screen. When playing video/game, the screen is fine and I like it. Even look great, but when displaying dark/black, the light bleeds everywhere. Very annoying. My last HP Omen had OLED screen, and never had light bleeding issue. Again, maybe no issue since you probably use bigger monitor as this is desktop. 5. Very thick power cord - I may have to careful not to move around too much since it's thick/stiff and may damage power port if move around too much. - none of the dislikes are deal breaker, though. This is excellent laptop with no compromise in speed and performance. I love it!

The price is really good because you're buying a laptop with a very high dedicated NVIDIA video memory (16GB), very good intel i9, and you can upgrade the RAM up to 64GB (recommended for big panoramas in Photoshop) and add another NMVE memory (very recommend to storage LOG videos to edit faster in Davinci). I use this laptop for video (Davinci Resolve and Topaz Video AI) and photo editing (Capture One, Topaz Photo and Photoshop) and it works really fast! The only but that has this laptop is the really big charger.

Got this laptop on sale, and for the price there was nothing close to it. Fans are loud, but the performance is great. Make sure to turn performance mode on the omen app for when you game its a world of difference.
