LulzBot Bio Overview
Offering flexibility and precise in-laboratory bio printing, the Bio 3D Printer from LulzBot is FRESH certified and can print a variety of soft tissue materials right out of the box, with ready-to-print profiles for unmodified collagen and alginate. FRESH stands for Freeform Reversible Embedding of Suspended Hydrogels, which allows the syringe pump extruder to precisely extrude highly detailed objects in a variety of materials at varying viscosities. Altogether, the LulzBot Bio can create multi-scale vasculature, fully functional heart tissue, and much more. As it's open source, the Bio can be made to extrude other additional extracellular matrix components, such as hyaluronic acid and fibrin, photo-curable resins, thermosets, silicon and epoxies, and more.
Made for the Lab
The LulzBot Bio manages to combine a large build volume with a small footprint, so it can easily be placed on a countertop or within a laminar flow cabinet. The rugged design can stand up to regular sterilization using either ethyl alcohol or UV lights and the integrated 4.5" touchscreen is glove friendly.
