Epson SureColor P900 Roll Paper Adapter

It works great. Easy to attach to the P900 and I love being able to print large photos and diagrams! Very helpful. Easy to load and unload.

I've had my P900 for about 18 months and have made several hundred prints in sizes from 4x6 up to 17x22 without any problems with paper feeding. I usually load single sheets but the sheet feeder, especially with sizes from 4x6 to 8.5x11, works well with several sheets of paper loaded. I generally load 13x19 and 17x22 one at a time. One of the complaints from new users concerns the apparently limited amount of ink that comes in the cartridges included with a new P900. The reason for the complaints is that during the initial setup the printer charges the in lines with ink. This causes the level of ink in the cartridges to register as low. So, the new user gets the impression that either the cartridges were not full to begin with or the printer wastes lots of expensive ink during setup. Neither of these is actually true. Most of the ink used during setup is not lost, it is still in the now fully charged ink lines in the printer and is sufficient for making lots of prints before needing replacement. As for print quality, I have had around 15 years experience printing fine art images on Epson printers. I initially had a 3880 which made beautiful prints for years. Eventually, due to head clogs, I retired that printer and replaced it with an Epson 7900 in 2014. About 2 years ago, as I no longer had the floorspace to keep it, I sold it to another photographer who is still using it. In December of 2021 I purchased the P900. It has worked flawlessly since setup with no head clogs and no paper feed issues. The P900 produces prints that are as good as and usually better than those from any other fine art printer I have ever seen.

I'm not sure if it's the P900 or the roll adapter. I guess I should put most of the blame on the printer, but either way, it's a super wonky combo. I bought the printer new from a year ago and it has worked great since day 1. Just picked up the roll adapter last week - used, but mint condition. 1st attempt - worked perfect. Loaded a roll of 17 Canson BFK Rives. Used Qimage Ultimate (latest version) to send it 2 prints and for some reason the driver squashed the prints width-wise by ~50%. Really weird and I'm 98% sure I had it all set up right. So either that was Qimage or a communication error? So I tried again. No matter what I did now, I couldn't get the roll to be properly recognized by the printer. It fed in properly, looked good in the window, but I kept getting load errors. This went on for hours. I cut another clean edge. No dice. On/Off. No dice. Inserted till the beep - no dice. Just beyond the beep - no dice. All the way till I met resistance -no dice. One time it just began spooling out all over the floor until I unplugged it. I tried a hundred times. All failures. NIGHTMARE. I even cut a piece off the roll, put it into the rear paper feeder and boom - worked fine, and still using Qimage. So then I tried another roll - of Canson Platine Fibre Rag. Just loaded the roll and bam. Right away it loaded with no errors. I tried it a few more times and the Fibre Rag seemed to load every time. I printed and it worked fine. However, I did experience the mad spooling one more time as well. Then - I went back to my pristine roll of BFK Rives and of course, the printer just won't recognize it even though it appears to load just fine. Madness. But actually...I guess it's gotta be the printer? Which all leads to this - I just can't ever rely on the roll adapter working reliably.

Using Epson paper, this roll adapter pretty consistently damages the paper leading the prints that are slightly defective. This wastes paper and money. Don't buy.

This gave me no end of grief, constantly spitting paper out with errors ... until I realized the front edge of the paper roll has to be cut PERFECTLY EVEN. Otherwise, the printer thinks the paper has been fed in unevenly and spits it out. It is VERY EASY to take a pair of scissors and cut the paper slightly unevenly to free a print from the printer (and then maybe go clean it up on a paper cutter) ... but what you're left with is a front edge on the roll that's crooked and that the printer will reject. Now it works down to the last bit of the roll. I believe not cutting properly is causing all the issues logged here. So happy I finally figured this out! The other secret is to feed the paper in all the way until it meets resistance, NOT when the printer beeps. It needs to go in WAY further than that to reliably load.

Very pleased with this roll adapter. Reasonably priced. and easy to set up. Used Epson Canvas with no problems. Would definitely recommend it.
