Genaray Spectro LED Outfit 500 Daylight LED Light

I consider this a great value because not only do you get a great light, you also get 2 batteries and a charger! The fully charged unit provided about two hours of light.

I've only used this for four shoot days of interviews. So far I love it. Super lightweight, plenty bright enough to serve as the key light for one person, also worked pretty well for the key light for a two-person interview I did, although in the future I will look for some added diffusion or an attachable softbox for a softer light. It stay cool even when left on for a couple hours straight! Not sure how long the batteries will last in one go, I ran the light non-stop for over an hour at a bit over half power on battery and it was fine. The build quality is solid despite it's light weight and plastic material, though not as solid as the higher end lights. I don't think it would survive a drop of more than a couple feet, but possibly. The fade knob feels sturdy and responsive. Love that it comes with two batteries and the ball head to attach to a light stand. The case it comes with feels pretty cheap, but it serves me fine for now, hold everything it comes with perfectly, just wouldn't trust it to last through serious usage over time. Happy to invest in something sturdier down the line. The color temp is nice and cool, no slight greenishness that you find in some LED lights. I rarely have to use it at full power since it's so bright, except when lighting darker skin-toned subjects where I need to stop down in order to prevent blowing out any bright backgrounds. In a darker setting this wouldn't be necessary since I could safely open up my aperture. Highly recommend this item.

I recently purchased LED lights and will be selling my old bulb light kit. I wanted portability and these two lights are perfect not power cable required. Recently I used the pair for a wedding. I'm a videographer and the ability to easily move all my gear and the lights around easily was a big plus. The dance floor was literally lit by the light of these two LED's. I totally recommend them.

I bought 2 of these Genaray SpectroLED Outfit 500 Daylight LEDs during the recent half-price sale. I wanted rectangular panels that could be mounted vertically on a desktop for a video diary project. I will need to build a rig to mount the lights. I have tested that they work but haven't used them for video work yet. So these are my first impressions. Each light is packed in a sturdy factory box and then shipped in another box. The light is made mostly of plastic but the build feels sturdy. Of course, it is not pro-level gear. The mount for attaching the ball head has quarter-inch threads. The threads look like metal but I'm not totally sure. There is a single knob that operates as the on/off switch and the brightness control. The lights are bright. For my cramped studio setup, Ill use them at half power, maybe less. For larger spaces I could use the full power. Changes in brightness are not seamless there is a stair-step jump for each new level. So these would not work for changing brightness while recording video. The batteries dont slide fully onto the terminals, as they do with most other products. About 1/8th inch of each silver-colored terminal remains visible. I would have preferred that the batteries mount fully onto the terminals. They do mount fully onto the charger. There are plastic locks to keep the batteries in place on the unit. This could be a weak point. The battery readout is 4 tiny LEDs with a tactile membrane switch, so you can turn it off if you want. Each light comes with an array of accessories: 1. A decent zipper case with 2 horizontal layers of padding for the light and a set of elastic or velcro bands at the bottom to hold the accessories. There is also a zipper compartment to hold the tungsten filter and the cable straps. 2. Two Genaray-branded Sony-type NP-F750 batteries. 3. A dual charger for the batteries. 4. An AC adapter (with a right-angle connector)if you dont want to use batteries. 5. A diffusion filter (which is shipped attached to the light). 6.A tungsten filter. 7. A ball head with a ratchet lock, designed for the mount on the unit. 8. Two cable straps, large & small. The light uses four corner screws to affix the filters. Aside from the possibility of losing the screws, it would have been more practical to use magnetic attachments. I bought the daylight model and may never use the tungsten filter. I wish they had included a second diffusion filter that is less transparent than the included one. I wont know how good the ball head is until I try to mount the lights. But this is a separate part that could be replaced if necessary.
