The entire thing died after 14 months of light/infrequent use. It charges but won't turn on. I opened it up and all the electronics inside seem to connected properly. Disappointing.

Quasar has the quality. Its a little more expensive then I would like (the plug in version is a fraction of the price) but you do get what you pay for. Essentially for running and gunning where no need for an outlet or hassles in set up are crucial. Will need a way to mount this light to a light stand if needed, I use the SmallRig 2164 with an additional thread adapter but many other options too.

I've found this light to be a very useful portable lighting solution for on-the-go documentary filmmaking. Light quality is good, operation is simple and intuitive, and the frame is lightweight and compact enough to fit inside its box with my light stands. However, the frame is very fragile. Mine cracked on one end after one month of very mild use (corporate interviews). The battery and charging are also problematic. The internal battery is an issue in and of itself: once the light is out of juice, it becomes a brick, because the battery cannot be changed, and the light does not have power pass-thru. For long shoots, these lights are a no-go. I've also noticed that the battery does not hold half as much charge as it did barely 6 months ago, and the light's passive cooling system might have something to do with that: THIS RUNS VERY HOT FOR AN LED. Using Micro-USB as a charging port was also a very unfortunate design decision, given the fragility of that particular connector. I would not recommend this for any serious work on the field, but solely for short interview subjects where time and portability are of the essence. Lights of similar quality with interchangeable batteries can be bought for about the same price.
