Diffusion gels soften the edge of a light source by spreading its beam, helping the light to wrap around three-dimensional objects more effectively. The more the beam width increases, the softer the shadow. The intensity of the light is diminished and the color temperature is sometimes affected when the light beam is scattered. Half White diffusion is a popular medium diffuser--there s a moderate softening of the light, without affecting the crispness too much. There s a 3/4-stop loss of light when using a Half White diffusion gel.
