Photek Illuminata Insert Adapter Ring for Profoto

The adapter ring that I received isn't the same one as what's pictured on the website. I've ordered this ring before and it was a higher quality. I don't know if there has been a design change from the manufacturer but this isn't a consistent product image.

The adapter ring is good quality for the price. The metal flange is very well made and feels quite solid. The rubber ring and clamp are pretty good -- not quite as robust as an actual Profoto connector, but that's to be expected for the price. Notes: -If it is too loose, use pliers to tighten the loops on the clamp -If you bought this to adapt Paul C. Buff lighting modifiers for use on Profoto lights, you need access to a metal grinder. Either the metal grinding bits for a Dremel tool (slow going, but it can be done) or a more robust bench grinder (luckily my neighbor has one and finished the project for me, it was taking forever with the Dremel. Bonus, he also had a buffer and was able to finish it off very nicely). From what I could tell from online measurements, this ring is the closest you get to 5 1/2 inch, so there is less grinding necessary than with other adapter rings in the under 100 price range. Attached are pictures of the Paul C. Buff insert on top of the Illuminata adapter ring so you can (hopefully) see how much of the edge needs removed. Great product that allows you to use virtually any other brand of modifier with your Profoto system providing you are capable of thinking outside the box... Don't buy it if you don't know which end of a screw driver to pick up~! lol (speaking figuratively of course, not literally).
