Impact Boom Arm (Chrome-plated, 86")

Overall construction seemed super solid but the sand bag weight hook was broken upon arrival. Seemed to be made of cast aluminium and snapped during shipping. Everything else looked great, but I had to return it and ordered the Avenger D600 Mini Boom.

We've operated a long time without a boom arm, and while we've made it work, being able to boom a light across a table or over a packed set can really make life a lot easier. This arm seems perfectly well built and fully durable for owner/operator set work. I think if there's anything that probably won't last it will be the foam towards the counterweight side of the boom. but it will still be usable and is entirely acceptable given the entirely reasonable price.

Pretty invaluable for wider frames and tighter spaces. There are some things about the build that I suspect might prove less than reliable (days are numbered for that foam handle on the counterweight side), but otherwise, it's easily worth the money and built well to boot.

The first thought that crossed my mind when I took it out of the box was, why would anyone spend almost twice the money for the more expensive brands? Sure, if you've got the money to burn, buy a Matthews. But, honestly?...I don't see the need. I own lots of great lighting products that are high quality yet inexpensive and deliver great results. This boom is sturdy, heavy (that's good!) and seems like it'll last me forever. The only thing you need to make sure of, and the sales rep made sure to drive this point home, is to have a light stand strong enough to hold it. Impact has the matching bottom for it, similar to the Matthews C-stand. I have JTL light stands that hold it fine, but I'll probably get the matching Impact C-stand bottom for it. That you'll need...this thing has some heft, but that's a very good thing when you're flying lights and attached modifiers. I highly recommend this great product from Impact/Gradus Group Products.

I bent three similar products that were not as well built. I have hung a couple of very weighty strobes off of these now for hours on end and they function perfectly. I will definitely be buying more.
