Impact Locking 3-Caster Set for 22mm Legs

These are the crappiest casters. I returned the first pair, because I couldn't get one to stay on my light stand at all. They sent me a replacement which seemed to work. Then a couple months later, I'm using them for the first time and they came off the stand -again! Ugh. Awful.

I bought two sets of these primarily to add portability to my Impact Pro Backdrop Support kit (BG-PS440). Pleasantly surprised at how much heavier and more solid than I expected. Instructions were clear. Insert goes in with the peg at the bottom. No need to drill or otherwise modify the legs. They fit great and once I set the legs to the proper position, the casters were level and they rolled with ease. Brakes hold up as well. No slippage. It will make moving my backdrop around a shoot much easier when it is just me. These also fit my Impact 6' Light Stand (LS-6B). However, the legs are a slightly smaller diameter, so I had to make sure these tightened all the way so they don't come off. Snug fit all around. Definite addition to my studio bag.

I am guessing that these casters were designed to go with a light stand that was already setup to accept them, and someone decided that they would work for other light stands as well. Yeah, they do, but definitely NOT like the Impact instruction pamphlet says. Following the Impact instructions one of the wheels on my light stand flipped around, fell off and almost dumped an expensive strobe on the floor. Not good. The legs on your light stands will need a hole to accept the pin for these caster shoes. Otherwise the caster will NOT be secure, and you will have a dangerous situation for your strobes - and possible a client. Here is what I did to fix the problem. I clamped each leg of my light stand to a bench then drew a mark with a metallic magic marker 1 from the bottom corresponding to the caster shoe pin position. I then drilled a hole slightly larger than the pin. The pin slips into the hole and then the caster is slid over the shoe and tightened securely. This the pin in the hole the shoe will not move, the caster will not rotate and is secure. Don't follow the Impact instructions unless they have you drilling a hole!!! Impact needs to include some sort of drilling guide for these caster shoes, and they definitely need to rewrite the instructions. After you do get the casters mounted properly they do work okay, but they actually are better with a sand bag on at least one leg.

I was hesitant after reading some reviews about the casters not allowing the stands to spin or roll easy enough. The grease used is either old or to sticky and needs a little more lubrication. I sprayed a little pb blaster multi purpose grease on the grease point where the bearings are to allow them to spin with ease. Now they work as designed and the stands roll and spin with no effort. Overall, the casters are well built and are solid. Price point is not bad. Would buy again.

Purchased two sets of these for Manfrotto AluRanker stackable 9 light stands. The idea of wheeling my lights around sounded so good, and it is nice, when it works. The wheels catch occasionally but, for the most part, do pretty well on both smooth surfaces and carpet. Some of the metal blocks that you insert inside the wheel to secure the light stand leg to the wheel haven't fit quite perfectly. I can make them work, but will have to shim a few down and alter them so they fit as they should and stay on the stand leg securely. I purchased these so that I can remove them and re-install as needed, since I travel with my stands a lot and need to be able to pack them flat.
