Genaray Square 60 1x1 Bi-Color LED Light Panel (2-Light Kit)

This is a great light. I have a few flat panels and I am super impressed with this one. First, the build quality of this light is top notch. It is all metal and made with quality materials I would consider it professional grade. It looks good on set too. The barn doors are sturdy, stay in place and fold easily. I like the way the barndoors come off and on too. You push them down on a spring, and they come right off and go right on. This is a great design and makes removing and replacing them very easy. It comes with a diffusion panel that is also made well and works well. Another example of how well this light is designed is with the provided power supply. Since this light can run on AC or with a v-mount battery, they put a v-mount on the actual power supply. This way you can attach the power supply right to the light when using the AC adapter. I love this design. One of my pet peeves is a dangling power supply, which causes stress on the cable and the connection. You'd be surprised how many lights have this problem. But because of this Genaray light's design, you can just attach the ac adapter to the v-mount slot. This alleviates any strain from a dangling power supply and keeps things nice and neat which I very much appreciate. The fact it can run on v-mount battery is also fantastic. I ran the light off one of my Watson Pro Mini V-Mount Batteries, and it was so convenient. With that small battery it was very easy and lightweight to move around. As far as light quality, I am very happy with this also. For a 60-watt light, this provides an impressive amount of brightness. The light it provides is nice and soft, and also consistent. It is bi-color and seems to hold about the same intensity throughout the changing of kelvin settings (2700k-6500k). The light also dims to 1% which gives you a lot of control, not all lights do that. Some will go to 10-30% and then turn off limiting their usage. So the fact this light goes to 1% gives you all that control which is very helpful. This light is also passive, meaning no fear of fan noise in your recorded audio. It comes with DMX controls so it works very well in a studio environment with a lighting board too. The onboard controls are straight forward and very intuitive. I had zero issues changing settings. The buttons and knobs are responsive and well made. Although I rarely use lighting effects, it comes with 11 adjustable effects (Lightning, fireworks, flash, etc..). So if you ever need them, they are there which is nice. But even better, they are adjustable so you can control the speed and intensity of the effects, which is a good feature. That is also appreciated. To conclude, I am very impressed and happy with this light. It is very well-made, looks and works very professional. And is very well designed. It is a great addition to my lighting kit and will be used very often. I see it as a key light, a fill or even a backlight depending on the scenario.

My first impression when I received this light was the build quality - it's superb. Even though I'm very careful with all of my gear there's always something secure about having lights that are made with metal. Even though metal is often heavier, metal last longer and holds up throughout time even if it's being transported from one location to the next on a regular basis. Here's what stands out to me the most about this light... - This light is quite powerful for its size - I love the v-mount ac adapter holder that comes with the light - The removable barn doors are a welcome bonus - It actually reaches a 1% dim - The controls are super simple to use - Passive cooling The only thing about this light that disappointed me was that it does not come with a dedicated bag so plan on keeping the box and the foam that comes with it or plan on buying a dedicated bag/case for the light. I think this light is primed for studio lighting or documentary filmmaking for interviews.

The Genaray Square 60 1x1 Bi-Color LED Light Panel has everything I'd expect in a panel in this class. Color temperature ranges from 2700K to 6500K, brightness is adjustable to 1% increment and can dial very fast to 100%. As far as I can tell, there are no remotes or Apps for this panel, however, it has DMX capabilities. Speaking of the 1% I LOVE when they make a panel that can dim so low at 1%, which this one DOES. This is important for long exposures such as Time lapses, which we will need just a tiny hint of light to highlight a tree for example without being too bright. The panel doesn't come with a bag or case but it comes in a box well protected inside, residue proof high rigidity gray foam, divided. Every accessory is isolated so nothing touches anything. The first impression upon unboxing, the barn doors are made of metal but not only that, the barn doors are very nice and rigid as you open and close the doors. It will stay exactly as you leave it. Additionally, the barn doors are FULLY removable and it is super easy to remove (see my pictures). You can also remove the diffuser but that part is not easy so leave that alone. The entire panel body is made of metal, including the control panel (display). The yoke is also metal and it has teeth against teeth to lock the light's tilt. No rubber washers in between. You get a SOLID lock. The locking knob is also made of metal! This panel has everything I demand. One thing I hate are those power supplies that hang around, found in many other devices. That's not happening here. The power supply on the Genaray Square 60 attaches exactly where the V-Mount goes when you are not utilizing one, making the entire setup nice and neat and no cable mess! (see pictures I provided and with some other informative content and I also included samples of a subject in front plus measuring the light with a light meter) The Genaray Square 60 as you saw it at the product images, you can power it with a V-Mount as well so you can take this panel everywhere indoors and outdoors. Brightness: Using a light meter, and I'm guessing most people would be using this panel for filmmaking but you can certainly use it for photography as well, as long as the subject is not making fast movements if shooting at low ISO. This is a 60W panel, not a 600. And again, I provided an image sample of a portrait using this panel. Worked great! With a light meter, 5600K at 1 meter (3 feet away) set to ISO 400 / 24fps at f4 aperture = f8.4. 6500K at 1 meter (3 feet away) set to ISO 400 / 24fps f4 aperture = f8.4 4200K at 1 meter (3 feet away) set to ISO 400 / 24fps f4 aperture = f8.3 3200 and 2700K at 1 meter (3 feet away) set to ISO 400 / 24fps f4 aperture = f8.0 I was testing using a Canon 24-105 f4, which is a darker lens. Most of you will also use wider apertures such as f2.8, f1.8, for extra depth of field, great for interviews, which will give you 2 additional f stops of brightness comparing to the 24-105 darker f4 aperture limitation. Great panel and it satisfied my needs.
