Fujinon 14x40 TSX1440 Techno-Stabi Image-Stabilized Binoculars (Black)

We bought our original TS 1440 Image-Stabilized Binoculars about six years ago for use exclusively on our sailboat. My wife and I are full-time cruisers/liveaboards and use these binoculars multiple times each day when we're sailing. A week ago, in some very rough weather, the binoculars took a tumble and a couple of very hard hits. When we tried powering them up, we saw the dreaded flashing red LED and the stabilization refused to respond. Figuring the cost of repair, plus the time without them would be more than it was worth, we opted to replace them with the current model. Enter the Fujinon TSX 1440 binoculars. They're smaller, lighter, and simpler to operate. The battery compartment seems better protected and sealed. The neck strap is much better than the one for the TS 1440, and the magnification and clarity are superb. The image-stabilization performance, however, is severely lacking. Saying the stabilization is jittery would be an understatement. When compared to the performance of the original TS 1440 binoculars, it's almost non-existent. It is stable enough to be able to know the stabilization is turned on, and good enough to read numbers and letters on navigational aids, ship names, etc., but it is far from being 'rock-steady' as was the TS 1440. We're keeping them, but are now planning to see if the TS 1440 pair can be repaired.
