Canon DR-E6C DC Coupler for EOS R5 C

A must for the R5C in partnership with the Anton Bauer P-Tap to Canon 9V Barrel Cable. I connect this to the Anton Bauer Titon SL 90 95Wh V-Mount battery and get around 7hrs of run time on a full charge.

Bottom-line: it works and the build-quality is very good... BUT, the only reason for buying this model versus any other LP-E6 dummy battery, is because it can deliver 9 V out (instead of regular 7.9 V) at higher current needed for powering both the lens and camera when shooting 8k60 RAW. I don't plan on it, but bought this anyway just in-case... I power the camera from a D-tap battery, so I also need the Anton-Bauer D-tap to 9V regulator. Thus the total price for externally-powering my R5C is €260. Outrageous. Besides the price, what annoys me is that (unlike any other LP-E6 dummy battery our there), this one has a big common-mode EMI core with 3-loops of the power cable through it, tie-wrapped onto the cable. So the cable from the camera to the battery ends-up with the EMI core, an in-line barrel-connector, plus the 9 V regulator-box all hanging on the cable. It's just ugly, awkward, and waiting for an accidental in-line disconnect when the cable gets caught on my tripod as I pan. Third-party Canon vendors, please make a simple, clean external power solution: A dummy-battery with the complete regulator built-in, a simple, 1m flexible (silicone, maybe coiled?) cable, and a D-tap connector on the other end. And then put a reasonable price-tag on it (and make one for the R5 too).

I'm only giving this four stars because I think, like many of these adapters and couplers, they are overpriced. I think €100 is pushing the acceptable end of the spectrum for something like this, and €160 is just ridiculous. But, that being said, if you are a professional video producer, it's a must-have for filming interviews. Especially if you are on a job and need to quickly pivot from filming lengthy sit-down interviews to running out an capturing b-roll on the fly. You can't burn through all your batteries on an interview and then be caught empty-handed or waiting for things to charge when it's time to get moving. So, yes, this does the job it is made to do, and it will always be part of my kit.
