Nikon MH-34 Battery Charger

Charges batteries well. Extra LED on top were a bit confusing but on-line manual clarified they were for calibration which I have no idea how they work but doesn't seem to affect the charging.

This is very expensive for what it is. Nikon did not have instructions in any Camera Manual including the Z6III, on what the flashing light meant and the embossed symbols that look like lights are confusing. I contacted Nikon and the techs on line had me call in. By the time they returned my call I had it figured out on my own. They still could not find what the flashing lights meant in anything on their end either. Several days later they sent me an e mail with a new set of instructions.

For me, the main reason to use this charger is that it can be slightly more convenient to have with me than the tried-and true MH-25a. For example, I may not have access to a power outlet in the field, but do have a USB-C Power Bank with me. So in a pinch I can have a EN-EL15c charging in my bag while I'm running around. This isn't totally reliable though because some power banks shut off automatically if what I'm charging is not demanding enough power, so try at home first as with anything else. It's usually most convenient to just have a few fully-charged EN-EL15c's with me. In my experience, usability for the MH-34 is otherwise the same as the MH-25a: you slide the battery into the charger and then an orange LED blinks until the battery is fully charged, at which point there is a solid orange LED. During charging, the orange LED blinks more frequently to indicate charging progress, but I don't find this to be very intuitive so I just wait for the solid orange LED that indicates it is done, the same way the MH-25a shows a solid orange LED when it is done. I haven't noticed a difference in charging time between this and the MH-25a, and I typically use both at the same time to charge a couple batteries at once. As for backwards compatibility, I don't worry about this because all of my batteries are EN-EL15c's now, but check your stash to be sure before ordering. Lastly I should note that I do have an EH-8P AC adapter (wall brick) as well as a UC 1E25 USB cable (USB-C to USB-C cable.) This is only my experience but I mostly plug the MH-34 into whatever UBC-C cable is already plugged in and nearby, such as my iPad or computer USB-C cable. To me, the whole point of this charger and USB-C PD in general is that I don't have to fuss with finding specific bricks and cables for a device with the exception of a laptop, of course, which wants a lot of watts. I have had a random USB-C cable or two not work with this, but no issues with any of my other devices' OEM cables. Conclusion: I don't think the MH-34 is better than the MH-25a, but if I already have a USB-C cable plugged in and ready, it is a bit more convenient to use the MH-34 than to look for an available wall outlet for the MH-25a. I am not replacing my MH-25a's with MH-34s. The extra cost does not equal a better value for me overall. But having another charging option is nice to have.

Better than other chargers, but a little expensive for what you are getting. Status light markings are just that, markings. Amber light at top flashes for status of charge. Will only charge EN-EL15B and EN-EL15C batteries.

It is a very expensive option, though a better design and functionality than its predecesor MH-25. It works well and provides charge level now.
