Nitecore USB Travel Charger for Leica BP-SCL4 Battery

This is my 5th nitecore charger - 2 others have been stolen. Easy to use and able to charge from a battery bank on the go and in the car. Perfect for travel!

Smaller than the charger that came with the camera. So it is a bit lighter thus easier to travel with. So far, no issues except it seems not to be as sturdy as the Leica version.

Does not charge the batteries. All the little numbers and symbols dance about the screen as if something is getting done but even after leaving a battery to charge overnight, it was no more charged up than when I first pulled it from my camera. I would return it but I no longer have the packaging.

The stock charger is 245 bucks, which is absurd, even for Leica, so this becomes a very attractive option. I use Nitecore chargers for all my cameras (Fuji GFX and Leica) because they charge at a very high rate (usually up to 1000 mAh) if you have the right power pack. This one does too. My BP-SCL4 batteries charge at 990 mAh - very fast. But to get that high rate you have to use a good power pack that has QC 3.0 capability on the USB A outlet. You might as well buy one of the many new (and small) wall charger packs that are 65 W and have two USB C ports and one A port, and that work with a wide array of charging standards and switch automatically between several standards at a wide array of voltage and amp combinations (QC 3.0, PD 3.0, Apple Fast Charging, Samsung Fast Charging, etc...). Every photographer needs one of these new 65W chargers to connect to their phones, tablets, camera battery charging mounts, cameras (for in-camera charging), and even laptops. The new TB4 and USB 4 ports on our laptops can also provide these fast higher Watt charges automatically. The bottom line is that several reviews here that said it charges slow or at a low rate (like 200mAh vs 5 times that rate) are using the wrong underpowered charger pack and it is reverting to the lowest level of charging. Also, someone said that the charger only took the battery to 80% capacity. I think that is incorrect. I wouldn't mind that if it were true because Li-ion batteries like to stay between 40 to 80 percent for greatest longevity and they hate being fully discharged or fully charged (of course we often have to charge fully and discharge fully because that is the reality of our shooting). But I believe that this charger takes my Q2 batteries to about the same level as the stock charger which is probably about 95%. Last point, the USB A cable is built-in and only 2 inches long. I hate that. I want to use my own USB cables. USB cables can be a problem and I want to pick mine. All photographers have plenty of USB cables for all of their devices. Two inches is ridiculous and means the charger will be hanging in the air most times. Please Nitecore - make all of your chargers USB C to USB C and no permanently attached cable. Let us use our own cables at the length and capacity we like. Mico USB and USB A is a thing of the past for devices this size (all devices really). Great charger and so small!
