Watson LP-E19 Lithium-Ion Battery Pack (10.8V, 3500mAh)

I use this with my R3. I can't tell the difference from the OEM. I don't know how many shots I can get with them as I typically shoot less than 2,000 per event. 75 percent charge remaining so I assume it will go much longer.

I had to try the Watson battery pack when I needed an extra battery and saw the price difference from Canon's name brand batteries. It has performed as well as the higher-priced version. From now on, I'll stick with Watson for my additional batteries.

I have used Watson products for over a decade, and no issues from V- Mount batteries to V-Mount chargers, including the ones for the Sony batteries, therefore, Watson is a brand I trust. And the Watson LP-E19 B-1547 is no exception. The R3 recognizes the battery, no warning messages and behaves and charges exactly like the original. I'm currently testing this battery on a Canon R3, which is more power hungry than the 1DXII I previously owned. I'm using this camera and batteries primarily for video. I decided to test this battery in a real world scenario, which is a different approach as a test and more accurate than just doing a test by only charging the battery and record a video continuously right away until the battery dies, therefore, I believe this scenario would be useful to you, as you probable have to deal with the same scenario when shooting in a production. What I find myself in a real world production situation is, until we finish setting up, composing and finish audio testing, situating the talent, the camera is on, LCD on and for at least 45 minutes wasting battery time until ready to shoot. So, first, I fully charged the Watson battery, left it inside the camera for 3 days in OFF position without recording anything. Then, without recharging the battery, I had a photo session that lasted about 30 minutes as the first thing that I used since the charge. Next day, I set the R3 to video and recorded continuously (in HD, not 4K) for 1 hour, 45 minutes until the battery displayed 15% charge left. Then I stopped recording. I could force a little and film another possible 20 minutes. It's NEVER a good idea to exhaust a battery until the blinking red icon appears. Don't do that. Any battery. If you want this batter AND your ORIGINAL Canon ones to last a long time, (service life wise), don't let that happen. Also, when not using the battery for quite some time, store the battery at 50% charge. Never full, never empty and at a temperature of 50 degrees F. or 21 Celsius, and climate humidity at 40%. It's a lot, but that's what lithium batteries like. Also, every time you empty a battery in full, you're using a full cycle. If you re-charge it from 50%, you're only using 1/2 cycle. Keep that in mind. Bottom line: this battery costs about .60 less than the original Canon. It provides at least 70% of what my original Canon batteries offers and performs. The only time I could see a difference is by doing the above test. When recording video straight as soon as I take the battery off the charger and immediately insert the battery in the camera and start recording, I didn't really see almost any difference in performance comparing to the original Canon LP-E19. Also, as a reference: The Watson B-1547 battery came completely discharged. But surprisingly, the SAME goes for the original Canon battery when I received my long time waited Canon R3. I couldn't power my R3 out of the box...100% dead battery. Usually, these Canon batteries come with some juice in them but for some reason, the LP-E19 on the Re box do come completely discharged, not what I like to see... To me, the Watson battery does the job very well, I would use in both cases, as the battery to start the shoot just as I would use the Canon ones and also an excellent backup when I run out of Canon batteries on a shoot.

After extensive testing with the EOS R3, I can definitively say that this battery seems to drain much quicker than the original Canon LP-E19 despite having a higher capacity rating (the original OEM battery is 2700mAh). I have used this battery on location while shooting to card as well as tethered shooting into a computer (laptop and desktop) and it seems to exhibit the same behavior in all settings. The EOS R3 is able to read the battery data and display it on the camera info screen which is nice. Overall, I suppose you can buy quite a few more of these batteries for a kit and simply swap and charge accordingly, but in the end you are sacrificing quantity for quality in my opinion (ie: 1 OEM battery may last as long as 2 of these Watson batteries).
