Canon EOS R6 Mark II Mirrorless Camera and Audio Recording Kit

Purchased this camera to begin my retirement hobby, along with a 50mm lens. I did my research and settled into the EOS R6 for it's features and capabilities. Though there were other options at less up-front cost, I prefer to have as much ceiling without having to come back-around and make other purchases, versus getting what I require. Specifically, I sought to have a full frame/mirrorless camera set-up to allow for wildlife as well as portrait type photography and everything in-between. Learning by photographing pets, family members, and the abundance of wildlife in our backyard. Lots of free time to take photographs, make mistakes, and learn. It's about the journey...

I've been using a Canon 5DSR for a while but it was starting to get a bit long in the tooth. Realizing Canon has backed away from DSLR's and appears to have gone all in with mirrorless, I decided to try the R6 Mark II as it had a nice sale price going. I'm very happy with it so far, especially since Canon developed a full featured adapter for my EF lenses. I really appreciate that my lens investment is not lost. The camera is very intuitive. The work I've done with it so far (admittedly a bit limited) has shown the camera to be very capable. Live view on it is fabulous. The controls are well thought out, as I've come to expect from Canon. I expect to have a long relationship with this camera.

While over the years starting with Canon Rebels T1, T3i, T6 and then the Canon EOS 80D and R body. this R6 Mark ii is by far the Best camera that I owned. It is a great camera with excellent AF, along with my Canon RF 24-105 I am very pleased with this setup.. Keep on shooting.

Its quite a change, really...... the video side is enough to do it IF YOU SHOOT VIDEO. But the photo side, which is what I do most, is excellent as well.There are a BUNCH of things that are different, however. One of the big ones is that if you turn on any of the smarter focus options you then have to learn a new shooting workflow, specifically using the drag functions on the screen or you'll get rapidly frustrated. I had star-button-to-focus set on my 5d3 and had run that way on Canon dSLRs for a heck of a long time -- but its not the best model to use on this at all as you have to shut off ALL the smart stuff or the camera will lock on the wrong thing sometimes (especially in servo focus mode) and its verrrrry hard to convince it to shift once it does. This is not to bag on focus accuracy -- its excellent and very fast -- but you get relearn what works for you as a photographer. It took a bit to get there.The high-speed options are quite different too. Specifically, one of the high speed options does not black out of the EVF at all while firing and the other does. That's a big change as with the 5d3 of course the mirror moves so there's that.All in all I like it a lot, and with the inexpensive adapter all my existing glass works great, so there's that as well. An all day walk around shooting experience used very little power from the battery so I have no fear there, and access to the battery and card slots with an ARCA plate on it is unobstructed which for me is a major requirement.I've been a holdout for a long time but decided to pop for the (rather significant) cost and am not sorry I did it -- its a nice camera, and one that I suspect will work for me on a forward basis for a good long while.

I have only had this camera for a month, but I love it. I am using it for real estate photography and event photography. The amount of features and options was a bit intimidating at first, but the trick is to learn what features you really need for your style of work and ignore everything else. Although, I would suggest learning everything, because you might find a feature that is really helpful. Most of my previous lenses are EF series, so I am using the Canon RF to EF adapter. So far, I have had no problems with the camera communicating with the lens. It even recognizes the EF lens specs if you want to use aberration correction within the camera instead of correcting in Photoshop. This was a financial leap for me to buy this camera, but it was totally worth it. My next step is to buy a RF lens so I can use the full frame features of this camera.
