A Full-Frame Digital Rangefinder
The Pixii Max Digital Rangefinder Camera, offered here in matte black, is the young digital rangefinder company's first foray into the full-frame camera space, with a 24.5MP BSI CMOS sensor in the same compact, machined-aluminum body as its APS-C cousin. Along with the company's recently developed 64-bit processor, 32GB of internal memory for storage, and the Leica M-compatible lens mount, the Pixii Max delivers state-of-the-art digital imaging in a time-honored, analog shooting process.
Full-Frame Sensor, 64-Bit Processor
The new, full-frame 24.5MP BSI CMOS sensor is the star of the new camera, which, along with its 64-bit processor released in 2023, provides sharp results with little noise and even more dynamic range. Its 24 x 36mm size mirrors the standard size of a single frame of 35mm film and helps maximize the light-gathering capacity of its diodes to provide the fullest expression of the classic M-mount lenses paired with it. The Pixii sensor design also allows the camera to produce native DNG RAW images in both color and monochrome.
Wide-Angle Optical Viewfinder
An essential component of the rangefinder experience, the Pixii Max's upgraded optical viewfinder now sports a 28mm, wide-angle field of view, with backlit LED frame lines for standard prime lenses with 35mm, 50mm, and 75mm focal lengths. Constructed with high-index optical glass featuring multicoated, antireflective surfaces, the 0.67-magnification viewfinder displays real-time controls and indicators inside the OVF for a convenient and immersive shooting experience.
Lenses and Focusing
Like all rangefinder cameras, the Pixii Max is a manual focus experience. The focus rings on M-mount rangefinder lenses control a small lever inside the camera to collapse images from two viewfinder windows into a single image linked to the camera's distance setting. This resolutely analog focusing experience produces more accurate results, especially at shorter focal lengths and in low-light situations. This also means that the lens's aperture setting must be controlled on the lens itself and not through the camera.
Build and Design
Adding just an ounce of weight to the same dimensions of the Pixii+, the 1.1 lb Pixii Max features the same machined-aluminum build and minimalist design as its forerunner. A top OLED screen displays the camera's current settings, including the shutter speed controlled by the camera's lone dial, plus access to the settings menu. The menu and current settings are also accessible in the optical viewfinder. The camera features a cold shoe for mounting accessories, a 1/4" -20 tripod mounting socket on the bottom, a USB-C port for both power and data transfer, and lugs for threading a carrying strap.
The Pixii Ecosystem
The camera features both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity for the Pixii App, allowing you to control the camera, preview images while shooting, and transfer and store images saved to the camera's internal memory. In addition to this camera-app integration, Pixii offers an upgrade path for both software and hardware, allowing you to preserve your investments by reaping the company's future advancements and innovations.
