Newswear Strobe Press Pouch

I got several of these Newswear pouches, that I use primarily for electronic flash units, cords, accessories, etc. to transport in equipment cases or carry either on my pack or wear on a belt while shooting. They're certainly the right size for strobes including all the Nikon SB units and the front of the flap has a roomy pocket useful to store things like cords, gels, misc. small parts. Their padding is adequate to prevent minor dings and dents perhaps but I don't know if it will take a significant hit. Two minor issues: If you shoot assignments in inclement weather, I mean REALLY inclement, while the pouch is water resistant material, there are no side flaps. Just the one large flap that folds over the front and velcros securely in place. Depending on the size of whatever is stored in it and whether the sides bulge, you lose weather resistanace. The other problem that drives me a little nuts is that while the belt loops are large and extremely sturdy, they are made to hang vertically on a belt that runs through them horizontally, BUT not to hang vertically on either a wide camera strap or bag strap like a Domke unless you kluge something up for that to work with the belt loops. In other words, there's no way to easily hang them vertically on a strap carried say over your shoulder. Hang it sideways in the rain and it will probably leak at the sides of the top flap. To quickly ID the contents, I use a chunk of white gaffers tape with a Sharpie Marker. It probably would benefit from a clear business card holder somewhere inside or outside to help give mislaid equipment at least a chance of finding it's way back to you. Trust me on this one though: If they weren't so useful and didn't afford my gear reasonable protection, then I wouldn't own so many of them. Good, useful, well-made but could use some improvements.
