Monster Adapter LA-FE1 Magic Ring Nikon F Lens to Sony E-Mount Camera Adapter

Works very well with my Nikon 300 f/4 PF and Sony a6300. Focussed rapidly in most situations. Surprised to see images every bit as good as this lens on Nikon D850 with DX crop.

After reading reviews here I had high hopes that this adapter would give new life to my favorite Nikon lens, the 300 PF. However, I found the adapter to be very disappointing. First, it takes multiple attempts to attach for the camera (tested on A1 and A7RV) to recognize the lens. Typically I've had to remove the adapter from the body 6 to 10 times before the camera would autofocus and see the aperture as f/4. Second the auto focus performance is much too slow for anything besides static objects. Hopefully there will be firmware updates that will improve it, so I will keep it but as of now it is not worth taking it on an actual assignment.

I own a lot of hard to get Nikon AF glass, and found it difficult to replace some of them from the amazing Sony lens line up. Found this adapter, and thought I would try it out. The AF is quick and accurate with the Nikon glass. Is it as fast as a native Sony lens? No. It is fast. But the Sony wins every time. The build quality is excellent. Contrary to some reports, it doesn't drain the battery power. Is it a good value? YES. Buy it now.

I purchased my Christmas present a new Sony A7RV but needed to use for large collection Nikon lens. Seems Nikon lens don't share much info and the other adapters I tried were not working. This was recommended to me and I am happy to say its works great.

Now that I have the adapter I did hook up a few things. The fit appears firm and tight. No play or slop with NIKON glass. The adapter has a lock tab that keeps things in place. The LA-FE1 does focus relatively quickly on the Nikon 14-24 f-mount lens. Maybe not as fast as my Sony glass but its plenty fast for my needs in wide angle. Takes about as long to focus as you can say tick, tick tick at your maximum. The lens does make a ticking sound as it focuses and adjusts focus. I have been told this is normal by the mfg. Focus tracking works. Tracks animals. I put the adapter on my old Nikon 24-70 (no VR). Same response as the 14-24. I then switched to the brand new Sony 24-70 GM II. From this fast test of my dog running the tracking was maybe a touch slower with the adapted Nikon, but not much. I then put the adapter on my f-mount Tamron 70-200. It would focus but not track. The fit was a bit loose but its the Tamron mount. It does this on my D810 as well. Pixel shifting does work. I was not surprised as this is all in camera. Focus stacking DOES NOT work in firmware version 3.0. The camera shows an error message that the lens is not compatible in focus stacking. Or the option is grayed out on the camera menu in drive mode. Monster has mentioned they are working on firmware version 4. Adding more lenses. I did pass on the lack of focus stacking issue to Monster Adapter. No idea if this is something they are working on or not. I'm pleased with the product. If the adapter would focus stack in acquisition I would give it 5 stars, but without it, a 4 star product.

I have been very pleased with this adapter on my Sony A1 and using both my Nikon 500PF and 300PF. Fast focus and focus on the eye. Saves a considerable amount of weight using the Nikon PF lenses vs the Sony Zooms. Very happy I can use my PF lenses!

I purchased the adapter but have been concerned as most people are in converting Nikon f-mount to Sony E. My A7R5 has not shipped yet. The rep was extremely helpful. He is a Sony shooter. The test included the floor model A7R5, the Monster Adapter LA-FE1 and the Nikon 14-24 F-mount. I did not request additional lens tests. From the feed I watched on line via the cameras HDMI, the auto focus latched and locked relatively quick. The rep put the camera into AF-C wide and it tracked his neighboring associate locking in on his eye (he was turned 90 degrees from our position). Sharpness, well he locked onto a tennis ball and the fuzz was sharp. The rep mentioned the fit was snug and secure. Everyone has been skeptical about adapting Nikon F to Sony E. There have been numerous misses. This might be the one. When I get my camera later this week, I'll post again with my equipment. If it works as I saw it will be 5 star. I did mention that should record a similar video and post the results as a review.

The recent firmware update (v03) made a huge difference. On my A7 IV, all F mount lens now can af-s most can also do af-c. Especially happy that the old Tamron 70-200 G1 is having a prime time on the new body with eye tracking!!! Best purchase after switching to E system. A must have if you want use F-mount lens on your Sony.
