Olympus LC-37C Auto Open Lens Cap for M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 EZ Lens (Black)

This works really well, and keeps me from fishing all pockets looking for the lens cap, or dropping it in the dirt. Opens and closes on it's own without electronic connection to the lens. I wish I had one for other lenses I own.

This auto lens cap is amazing! When mounted on my PEN-F, this lens and cap combo turns the camera into a super convenient, high quality walkaround camera. The lens is greawhat a great little pancake for most purposes, quite sharp and super compact. The cap is ingenious: it has a couple tiny little nubs protruding from the rear surface, and when the camera powers on, the lens extends and relieves the pressure on these levers, allowing the cap's iris to spring open. When powered off, the retraction of the lens flips the leaves back into place and covers the lens. It works just like a lot of point-and-shoot cameras. As other reviewers have pointed out, it doesn't work if you add a UV or other filter to the front of your lens, but frankly, this lens isn't a million dollars and is protected enough by the cap. (The alternative is to screw a UV filter in and leave the lens capless, protected only by the filter, which is also a perfectly fine solution.) Everyone who owns this lens should consider this cap, in my opinion.

I have this on the 14 - 42 Olympus pancake lens. It works well and I don't know why it isn't I included with the lens in the first place. Did I say it was fun to watch?

The Olympus 12-42mm f/3.5-5.6 EZ lens is a compact design with a power extension feature when the camera is turned on. Adding this Olympus auto cap further improves the convenience of the lens by eliminating the step of removing the lens cap. It does prevent using add on filters but it detaches easily if that need should arise.
