The Neutral Density .6 filter is an important filter to have because it reduces the amount of light coming into the lens by two stops. The ND filter also allows the video camera to shoot at wider apertures and not overexposing the scene in addition to, getting a shallower depth of field in the shot.

Unlike digital cameras film cannot white balance under fluorescent lights, but the FL-D Filter does provide that solution. By not correcting the film for that type of lighting it will capture the green cast fluorescent lighting gives off. The Tiffen 58mm ND 0.6 Filter is a solid ND filter with a filter factor of 4x that provides a 2-stop exposure reduction. Its 0.6 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

Tiffen 58mm FL-D Fluorescent Glass Filter for Daylight Film

A Tiffen 58mm FL-D Filter is used when you wish to correct for the greenish tone that appears when shooting daylight film under general purpose fluorescent lighting.

NOTE: The FL series of filters alone does not always guarantee 100% correct color balance when shooting under fluorescent lighting. They are general purpose filters intended for moderate correction and will not, by themselves, necessarily provide perfect color rendition.

An FL-W filter is used to balance daylight film under warm white or white type fluorescent lamps. An FL-B filter is used to correct the color balance when shooting tungsten film under fluorescent lighting.

Fluorescent lamps burn at many different temperatures and often require more demanding filtration for exact results. For specific filtration and professional use, it is strongly recommended that a color temperature meter be employed along with Color Correction filters (i.e.CC30M) when shooting under fluorescent lighting. This is the only proven way to achieve exact color correction.
