B+W 46mm UV-Haze #010 MRC Basic Filter

I've always used B+W filters and love the quality of the glass and brass frame. This one is no exception, and I even appreciate the knurling of the ring which makes it easy to grip when installing on the lens or installing/removing ND and polarizer filters. My only issue, as others have mentioned, is that I wish I didn't have to pay the higher fees of other B+W filters just to get the plastic container. B+W filters are a little spendy, and I don't mind paying for the quality, but do wish they included the inexpensive box with all their filters. It's a nice complimentary item which is missing with this purchase.

I wanted a filter for my Canon RF 85mm f/2 Macro IS STM and didn't want to get something cheap that was going to degrade my images. This filter feels well-built and protects my lens without negatively impacting image quality.

Spend the money, buy a good quality filter. Prior to buying this filter I thought that any UV Haze filter would suffice for protecting my expensive L lenses. Maybe, but not on a telephoto lens. I was using a Tiffen UV filter on my Canon Ef 100-400 f4.5-5.6 L IS USM. After taking some photos that were zoomed in to 400mm, I noticed that all the backgrounds had very noticeable blurred streaks. Not bokeh but like a patterned distortion. After my initial panic that the lens might be broken, I removed the filter and repeated the shots at 400mm. Problem solved. While I hated the idea of spending even more money for something I already had, the picture quality with the Tiffen filter was simply unacceptable. (picture below) After receiving this B+W UV Haze filter I immediately went out and took numerous shots at 400mm. After reviewing them in Lightroom, they were all perfect, no streaks or distortion. The saying goes, You get what you pay for. It's true. And that's the difference between a filter for €35 and one that costs €80. It cost me €115 to find that out. I hope my experience can save you some money.

This is a solid filter. It has good weight. I'm not skilled enough to see the differences with the photos. But, the photos with the new lens look crisp and clear. At a minimum, it provides good protection for the lens.

Although I never use UV filters, I did gave this one a chance for the long telephoto lens. There is no image degradation or quality loss. This is a quality product. It protects your lens and help reduce UV haze
