Really Right Stuff Macro 150 Single-Axis Focusing Rail with Integrated Arca-Type Clamp

I love everything that RRS has and I have a lot of their products from the excellent BH-55/BH-40 ballheads to numerous camera and lens plates and even replaced my Arca Swiss Z1 QR with their legendary flip-lock clamp to breathe new life into it. Imagine my Pikachu face when I started using this thing. Don't get me wrong: it's well-made and has the same flip-lock QR that's consistent with their other products. The problem is the operation: it has too much backlash IMO when they claim in the product description that it's virtually no backlash (it requires almost one full revolution before the adjustment knob grips the rail gear) with no means to adjust it and the gears are not as smooth as I want it to be. As you know this becomes largely cumbersome when you require very small increments in movement. I talked to someone at RRS and apparently this is BY DESIGN. Comparing it to a Nisi rail that is half the price and with no perceptible backlash (and smoother gear operation too compared to RRS), it's hard to justify spending the money on this. Not recommended.
