LensCoat Lens Cover for the Nikon 300mm f/2.8 VR / VR II Lens (Forest Green)

The Lenscoat cover for the 300 mm f/2.8 lens fits the lens well, with a couple of exceptions. It is a series of sewn neoprene rubber sleeves that fit the various parts of the lens, as shown. The cover comes with a separate cover for the lens focus ring, which was not clear in the product description. This focus ring piece is useful for camouflaging the whole lens. The lens cover is good for protecting the lens body from scratches and dings when outdoors in harsh environments. The camo cover will help keep the lens hidden from view when outdoors. The digital camo pattern is the best pattern for the dry southwest landscapes. In addition to the larger pieces shown for the lens hood and barrel in front of the focus ring, Lenscoat covers come with several narrow rings. One for covering the distance scale and VR/focus control switches. One for covering the narrow space between the VR switch and the tripod ring. One for the smaller diameter base of the lens and the filter holder. The plastic windows for the lens scale and focus buttons does not seem necessary due to the watr resistant O-ring seals at all buttons and may become hard, faded or scratched over time. There are two pieces of sticky backed neoprene strips with a backing similar to 3M two-sided adhesive tape. These pieces must be cut to fit and stuck onto the lens. These two pieces are a shortcoming in my opinion. One covers the barrel up to the VR switch while the other covers the tripod ring up to the tightening knob. The cover strip for the VR switch could easily be part of the same piece as the focus scale and focus switch piece and the plain ring behind the VR switch. These three pieces could all be incorporated in one piece. The tripod ring must move separately but it could have been a continuous ring with a large hole for the tightening knob. This would eliminate the need for sticky back neoprene pieces that must be cut and applied to the lens. I don't know why Lenscoat hasn't done this already? Otherwise, this Lenscoat product will protect the lens and hide it from view while looking for animals and birds.
