Hasselblad XCD 90mm f/2.5 V Lens (Hasselblad X)

I waited forever for this lens. It's a great lens, optics are what you would expect from Hasselblad. One note it's much noisier (than my 38V lens) than I expected, in reaching out to Hasselblad support they said that was normal. No complaints at all so far, its been great to travel and shoot with.

Unsurprisingly, the 90V delivers as expected with superb sharpness edge to edge and fast and accurate focusing (for a Hasselblad lens). Some vigneting but easily corrected in LR/Phocus. The surprise was that its leaf shutter is much louder than the 38V's, but that's not a deal breaker!

That lens is reasonable light on the 907X and has an excellent image quality but only focus to 0.68m. So it is quite limited for close up at 0.17x. I am using the excellent corrected Sigma AML72-01 closeup lens with it which extends the focusing rang to 0.34x but I see some distortion (with any close up lens I tried) which is not fully corrected in Phocus. I don't understand why all XCD lenses have roughly the same close focus magnification (except the 120mm macro which is far too heavy to be used on the 907X).

This lens is insanely sharp, especially at F4. The field of view is nearly as narrow as the 80 f1.9 but with a lighter body and much better optics. Autofocus is very fast and face-detect works great. All of this makes for a perfect portrait lens - even the vignetting adds to it!What this lens is not is a macro lens - it focuses as close as any vintage lens at this focal length and as long as you have no expectation of capturing small things, this is really not an issue. The only issue you may have is the shutter sound - it's the loudest of all XCD lenses I've tested. This has not been a problem with me since I use this lens for portraits and landscapes, but anything requiring stealth is a no go - I've had to turn my electronic shutter on to take pictures of my cat. But even this is worth it for the pictures I've been able to take!

Yes the shutter makes a loud 'clunk' and there is a very slight amount of rotational play in the lens mount like the other XCD-V lenses. I'm already used to the shutter sound - no complaints from my portrait clients. I only shoot in-studio and in good weather outdoors so the lens mount seems fine to me. This lens is exceptionally sharp! I never thought I would say this but it is as sharp as the XCD 65mm lens - maybe even sharper if that's possible. It's lighter than the 65mm and virtually the same size - slightly smaller diameter and just a smidge longer. The XCD 90V easily fits in the same foam cutout as the 65mm in my Pelican case. As a portrait photographer - this is a perfect focal length. Wide open it is offers incredible background separation and beautiful bokeh. Face detection and autofocus work great and very fast with the X2D. I have yet to attempt to manually focus - haven't needed to. I have the 38, 45P, 65, and now this 90. The 1/4000 sec. max shutter speed capability is great for balancing ambient light when shooting outdoors in combination with studio flash. I don't care for the metal lens cap on this lens (the newest 'V' series lenses). The heavier metal cap is easy to get off but it takes me a few tries to get it back on. Overall a beautiful lens that is a joy to use!

High quality portrait and short telephoto lens. Very sharp. Downsides are weight and very loud leaf shutter. With a 71 mm functional equivalent length, this is not a walking around lens. However, it's supplements the 38 mm nicely.

One of the best lenses I've ever owned. It's a bit louder then the other lenses in the V line up, but still very quiet.
