Sigma 10-18mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary Lens (Canon-RF)

Wow. That is all you need to say. This lens is stunning for the price, and it's sharp all throughout the focal lengths even wide open at f/2.8 - I have always been shy to get a zoom lens because I like it to be fast and sharp like a prime. When I was struck between the Sony 11mm f1.8, Sigma 16 and Viltrox 13 this lens popped into my feed. I instantly realized the power this has given the constant aperture of 2.8- Great for landscapes, great for astrophotography, and great for video!

I bought this lens for vlogging and real estate videography and it was PERFECT. The FOV is wide enough to where you can throw on stabilization and have it still be wide enough.

Purchased this to use on my Fujifilm X-T5. I looked at the Fujifilm XF 10-24mm F4 R OIS WR, but couldn't justify the extra cost and the sigma is f/2.8 vs. f/4 on the Fujinon. Great color saturation; very sharp.

10-18mm is a surprisingly useful range (15-28mm full frame equivalent). 10mm lets you take wide shots for landscapes or when you're in cramped areas and can't move back. 18mm gives you a small amount of zoom for that much more flexibility. f/2.8 lets in a good amount of light. I can't get a lens that isn't capable of at least f/2.8 anymore. My old zoom lens is f/4, and I only use it when it's bright outside. Although f/2.8 doesn't make this the perfect landscape astrophotography lens, it is useful in moderately dark areas. I've attached some pictures for reference. The auto focus is good although it's not the best among Sony-E mount APSC lenses. Minimum focusing distance is good, making this a decent macro lens. It's 11.6 cm at 10mm and then gets slightly worse as you zoom in more with 19.1 cm at 18mm. Some people would debate whether to get this lens or the Sony 11mm f/1.8 lens. I have uses for both and plan to keep both. With the 11m prime, you have better auto focus and low light performance with f/1.8. Macro is about the same. With the 10-18mm f/2.8 lens, you have more zoom flexibility and less barrel distortion on your images compared to the 11mm lens (although that can be fixed in Lightroom).

Using on X Pro3 and X H2 - very quick and accurate focusing on both. Excellent image quality on both. Lives up to all the positive reviews. No intention of purchasing any lenses for Fuji system without aperture ring but filled a need and has been a welcome addition to my kit (although do not anticipate any further purchases of any lens w/o aperture ring).

So, how can Sigma make better zoom lenses than Fujifilm? The Sigma 10-18 f/2.8 DC DN zoom is significantly smaller and lighter than expected. Build quality is very good, and optical performance is better than expected, even wide open. Of course, corners/edges sharpen some when the lens is stopped down, but even at F/2.8, corners and edges are really not bad.
