Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 AF Lens for Nikon F

I bought the same lens on January 29th. I received it in two days. I put it on my Bmpcc6k and realized that it didn't connect to the iris. I thought there might have been a defect and asked for an exchange. The exchange and when I received the second lens, guess what? Same problem. on the bmpcc6k it didn't connect the iris information and also the manual focus didn't work. very disappointed.

This lens will completely disconnect from the camera and cause it to lose focus and ability to regain focus. It will cause the camera (A7R IV) to malfunction and become unresponsive until you either restart the camera or disconnect the lens and reconnect it. I bought the 50mm Rokinon at the same time and have no issues, firmware has been updated on both.

Just to set record straight, I mostly shoot birds and nature and this was the first time, shooting portraits crossed my mind. I started looking for a portrait lens, primarily to capture family and friends' pictures and gone through reviews of many lenses, including some of the expensive lenses. After receiving this lens, I took some test images and was pleasantly surprised with the quality of images. The color rendition, sharpness, as well as bokeh came out to be perfect. I am very happy with the results and will surely recommend it to anyone planning to explore portrait photography.

I know that the manual focus on this lens is focus by wire, but it doesn't seem to function as a normal lens on my Nikon D750. I don't know if I have a bad lens, or that's just the way it is designed. Setting the lens switch on manual and the camera focus selector on manual, nothing happens by turning the focus ring. You have to depress the shutter half way to manual focus. It seems as if depressing the shutter half way energizes the manual focus ring, and you can then focus manually. If you release the shutter button, and the standby timer for the viewfinder and meter expires, then depress it half way again, the preset focus is not maintained. The lens pops out of focus, and you must refocus with the focus ring. I don't know if this is the way the lens is designed to function, or if mine is defective. But if this operation is by design, then don't expect to use this lens on a tripod to take a whole sequence of photos using a preset manual focus. If the standby timer expires, every shot will be a meaningless blur. Maybe someone from or the manufacturer can comment on this apparent anomaly. On the plus side, in limited use, auto focus appears quick and accurate, although it occasionally hunted, but maybe that's my technique rather than any limitation of the lens. Image quality and resolution are superior. Some have complained about vignetting, but I don't see it. Although I haven't tried to challenge the lens, distortion and chromatic aberration are likewise not apparent. Others have commented about the lens hood falling off. I would respectfully suggest that they are not mounting it properly. Line up the index marks, twist, and it clicks firmly into place. One other comment, the mounting flange seems tight. But for the crazy manual focus, I would give this lens four and a half stars for image quality, auto focus, speed, and overall value, but it gets only three for the funky focusing system.

Sharp across the frame. Good A/F on Sony A7R3 although it occasionally hunts to find focus point. Nice bokeh. Altogether a great budget priced lens.

This is a GREAT lens! Great bokeh, works flawlessly with IBIS on my Canon R6. The lens arrived with the latest software update. Really dissapointed with the lens hood. It doesn't lock in place and falls off. Quick cheap fix: Buy a 77mm screw on lens hood (.11). Now it's my go to lens for portraits, including fast action children photos.

I purchased this lens due to the various reviews and its very favorable ratings among the many reviewers I have followed. I have one complaint and that is the lens hood falls off and doesn't lock into position. The first time I went out for a photowalk the hood fell off and I didn't see it until I raised the camera about 100 yards away. I retrieved the hood and now have to use tape to keep it on. I have written to Rokinon and have not received a reply in a week. Other than the hood I am very happy with the lens.
