Elvid OptiView 50 3.2" LCD Viewfinder

I've seen many devices that do what this device does, but haven't seen any others that do as much. Items in it's field of view are presented well, clearly and a well lit.

The plastic fram work is very flimsy, but with care, it is usable, the optic lens is relative OK, secured with metal retainer ring. I took the original glass out and replaced with one piece of convex glass from one of an old tele converter lens elements, with 1 drop of rubber cement, instantly looks better.

It's well built and incredibly useful. The only problem for me is that it lacks enough adjustment for my eyesight. I have to unscrew the eye piece so far back that it may practically fall off if bumped. A previous viewer that I owned (but lost) had a much better aye piece adjustment. I cannot recommend buying this online. If you're in the store, or know someone that owns one, give it a test and hopefully it's focusing will work for you.

I had purchased the LCD viewfinder to assist me take photos in the sunlight. It definitely is helpful in that respect. It also helps magnify the photo making it easier to view. I highly recommend it for both uses. The only downside I had was the installation. I came with two frames for attachment to the camera. The first one did not have enough poxy to stick. The second one worked fine. My only hesitation is that the viewfinder is magnetically attached to the camera and may fall off easily. Otherwise, a worthwhile investment.

It's too close to the screen for my eyesight. Even with the extension attached, I still wish there was a another 3/4 inch on the extension because it's too close to the LCD screen to see clearly for me. I realize I can unscrew the optical eyecup back to adjust a little more, but it's screwed out as far as it can go. I've even added popsicle sticks in between the extension and the viewfinder, and taped the popsicle sticks in place with black tape. But even still, it's not pulled far enough back and I still wish there was another 1/4 added to adjust for my eyesight (I have slightly far sided vision even though I can still read without glasses). But I make it work. I just don't use the magnets at all. I just hold this LCD viewfinder up to the LCD screen and hold it to where I can see the screen clearly, and that works for me. At least I can check things on the screen easily with it and I don't have to mess with the magnet bracket. I'm honestly perfectly fine with not using the magnets and it not being actually attached to to the camera. I just keep it around my neck the whole time for when I need to check my screen. That being said, I'm so used to using this at every shoot that I feel naked without it around my neck whenever I'm shooting video or photos. Whether it's this brand or another brand, I feel everyone needs one of these!
