Hoodman HCP DSLR Camera Custom Finder Base Plate for HoodLoupe

As a film and DSLR shooter, this allows me to shoot my 1Dx MK 3 as a pseudo mirrorless camera using the back screen. As some focus tracking functions like eye tracking ate only available in live view, this allows me to hold the camera to my eye as a camera should be held. The only downside is the bar for adjusting the highth of the loupe is about 1/2 to short to allow me to attach it wirh my L bracket on the body. As is I have to remove the L bracket but that's only a minor inconvenience.

Every so often, a company will get a product totally right; this is one of those products. The design is thoroughly thought out, it is beautifully machined, adaptable to a wide range of cameras, is solid and stable in use, and it's made in U.S.A.! Note that adaptation is simplest if your camera's tripod socket is aligned directly under the lens axis (i.e. centered on the lens). Most DSLRs will be, but some high-end point-and-shoots (such as my Nikon P7100) have severely offset tripod sockets, requiring a work-around such as a dedicated quick-release L-bracket, which will have its own lens axis-centered tripod socket. Minor offsets are within the finder plate's adjustability range. Your viewing loupe can be quickly attached or removed. Included instructions are sketchy at best, but there's a good online tutorial on Hoodman's website. A beautiful product!

Was not quite sure about wearing the Hoodman Loupe around my neck and using my face to hold it steadily in place during use so I added the Finder Base to my first order. It is now mounted on one of my camera bodies and I just leave the Loupe on all the time, and yes, it even fits my Canon 90D with battery the battery grip in place. This combo makes using the Canon 100-400 zoom much more comfortable and accurate.
