Vello CG-RX100 Hand Grip for Sony Cyber-shot RX100 Series Cameras

This hand grip definitely helps with being able to securely grip my RX100 VI camera. The camera is quite tiny, especially for those of us with large hands, and it has absolutely nothing to get a good grip on. Enter the Vello hand grip. The grip is well-made, and it fits perfectly on the camera. Looks good, too. I would've given the grip 5 stars, but I don't think the actual grip has quite enough projection to get a great hold on. Another quarter inch or so of projection would've been a lot better. Also, the tiny mounting screw makes me wonder how long the grip will stay securely attached to the camera. In all, though, a large improvement over trying to hold onto just the camera body itself when using the camera. And the grip is sturdy enough that it affords some protection to the camera body against scuffs and bumps.

Though the Vello CH-RX100 may not meant for many to be an accessory to put on off and put back on again- it might be the best choice for the Sony RX100-VII. If you do not put the step down screw on first, it might be a difficult install but the black screw might strip. However, once on -the metal construction, the synthetic skin on the grip provide an excellent sense of balance, feeling of security and looks very professional. I would highly recommend purchasing a Op-Tech hand strap or Peak Design neck strap. If avoidable, I never will hold any camera by its grip, on a monopod etc. without a backup.

Overall I like the Vello grip and have it installed on my RX100ii. It greatly improves the security of holding the camera as it provides something for your fingers to grasp. Combine with the regular (factory) thumb pad on the back of the camera I am far less worried about dropping the camera when holding it in any kind of unusual or extended shooting position. The grip is mounted semi permanently to the camera with a threaded bushing, and a machine screw, using a screw driver (all included). The grip itself has a 1/4-20 thread so the grip/camera can be mounted to a tripod. The opening in the bottom of the grip allows for removal of the memory card and battery without removal of the grip. If your camera's card slot/battery door doesn't spring open far enough when unlocked, it can be tough to get a finger under the door to actually open it the rest of the way. Also, the flip down screen is somewhat blocked by the grip; it won't flip down through its full range with the grip installed. I don't flip the screen down much during normal shooting so it's not a big issue for me. I do wish the the finger grip (the vertical portion of the grip on the front of the camera that your fingers grip) was taller, and that it was a tall as the full height of the camera, as that would provide even better security. None of the RX100 grips seem to be any taller that this one, thought. Lastly, if you're used to slipping your RX100 into a pocket, this grip will add some bulk and may hinder pocektability. I don't keep mine in a pocket; I use a small Lowepro case. The grip adds enough bulk that it's now a snug fit in the case. Overall, I like the grip and recommend it. A few minor improvements would make it better.
