Nikon ES-1 Slide Copying Adapter

Works great combined with an inexpensive TTArtisan 40mm f2.8 Macro lens on a Canon M50. I'm copying a series of 50 year old Kodachrome slides and the quality is very good. A previous review of the 40mm TTArtisan + ES-1 gave me the confidence to order both. I appreciate everyone that takes the time to review their purchases. Thank you!

This adapter works well with any MFT camera and the Olympus 30mm MFT macro lens or the Olympus 12-50mm MFT zoom lens. The 30mm lens takes 46mm filters, so one needs to buy a 46mm to 52mm step up ring because the ES-1 has a 52mm diameter screw thread. The 12-50 mm takes a 52mm filter so it doesn't need a step-up ring and it has a useful macro mode. Either of these lenses focus close enough to be used with the ES-1 without any extension tubes between them. The ES-1 can also be used with the Olympus 60mm macro lens, but that lens does not focus close enough for the ES-1 to be used with it without an extension tube between them.

I had originally ordered the es-2, but after 6 months on back order I finally gave up and got the Nikon ES-1 when it became available at . Since I only have slides to copy getting the ES-1 might have been a blessing in disguise. It is mostly metal (not plastic like the ES-2) and once you get used to it, you can photograph your way through a box of slides fairly quickly. I use with a 40mm Nikkor DX macro lens on my D7500. No attachments needed. The ES-1 just screws directly to the lens. I settled on using The FL picture control setting. Aperture priority f8, ISO 100 and a plus 1/3 on exposure. I use a Lume Cube Panel Mini set at 5000k. I set my white balance using the PRE function (photos say it came our as 4400k). I photograph using live view and zoom in on critical part of photo to auto focus. I then hit the focus lock and use my remote to take photo. Most of my slides are Kodachrome and come out reasonably good. I do wish this had a locking screw like the ES-2, but as you use it you just sort of figure out how to make the ES-1 work for you.

The product performs as it should and is very well made. I still find it a little tricky in setting up with a micro lens and extension tube to get consistent results, but overall works well. Really my only choice to copy slides since I sold my Nikon LS 9000 Scanner. I gave it four stars mainly because of the high price.
