Manfrotto 678 Universal Folding Base for Monopods

Attached to a Manfrotto 680 monopod - easy to install - convenient storage inside the monopod when walking. Solid - well made - convenient when you need to free hands for other tasks - not a tripod replacement, heavy duty but use caution with it.

The feet are only 8mm in diameter. I suppose they have to be that thin to fit inside my 681 monopod. However, they are also rather springy. So if you move the camera at all when you touch it to start recording, the monopod starts wobbling, oscillating actually, taking about 5 seconds to damp down. I suppose I'll go back to my very light 20 year old 190 series tripod and only use the monopod and this base when absolutely necessary.

Use this with a Manfrotto 680B monopod and a RRS ballhead (BH40) with a Ricoh Theta Z1 360 degree camera. Outstanding setup. No problems and stand works really well. Good value.

I have my monopod for a few years now but did not find it fool proof in low light situations on its own because it tends to move. I also found it difficult to carry it with me because I just couldn't put it down for a second, since the poor thing only has 1 leg! This product solved all my problems (related to the monopod of course!) The design is very smart, the legs go inside the monopod for ease of carrying. Once you need them, you unscrew the legs from the nut that goes on your monopod and then you flip the legs out. EASY! This way you are not carrying another thing when you go out shooting. I used it in during Christmas and it helped a lot by stabilizing the camera. I also could take the camera off and leave the monopod for a second without it falling. I would have bought this sooner if it was a bit cheaper, but now I am happy I purchased it.
