The BP-3 plate features a small curved lip that sits just below the LCD of Canon 5D and 7D cameras. This prevents any twisting between the camera (The plate also fits Nikon D7000, D3000, and D5000 cameras, but it mounts these models backwards.) There s a 1/4 -20 screw for attaching the plate to your camera, of course, and Jobu has decided that a wingnut or thumbscrew would only contribute to this plate s eventual loosening, so the manufacturer has eschewed employing either one for this design.
A1/4 -20 threaded hole enables direct attachment to a monopod, a ball head with no quick-release mechanism, a tripod, or to a quick-release strap system (such as a Black Rapid strap).
