FUJIFILM MLP-75XF Metal Lens Quick Release Plate

I attached this plate to the removable foot on the Fujinon 50-140 f/2 lens. It fits perfectly and attaches securely to my Arca-Swiss style tripod clamps. I have both Really Right Stuff (RRS) and Kirk clamps, all of the screw-knob style. The build quality is every bit as good as my other RRS plates.

I debated between getting this and getting the Really Right Stuff universal lens plate. Frankly, it came down to the fact that this has the Fuji label on it so I decided to give it a try. Fits perfectly onto the lens and works great with my Arca-Swiss Acratech Ballhead. Done.

The plate is too thin to hold in an Arca-Swiss style device. I tried the plate in my RRS ball head and it slide around. The width is correct but the thickness is to thin to hold

The metal quick release plate is designed for the 100-400mm and the 50-140mm lenses. This plate is not cheap, but it is very well made. It nicely machined with a metal, and a heel to help the lens in place. It also includes rubber padding. It is a quality piece of gear and not just some .20 plate. I hesitated dropping .48 for it but I am very satisfied with the product.

First, I am a rabid fan of Fujifilm. I have 2 professional full-frame bodies and 5 lenses made by a manufacturer whose brand starts with ôN.ö Almost 4 years ago I had a flirtation with the Fujifilm X-T1 and took it with 4 lenses to Iceland. The images that I shot there were the finest of my career. The next year I returned to Iceland with my ôNö camera and lenses and got good-but-not-great images. Ditto for the next year. IÆm now leaning strongly toward Fuji. I dare to venture that at least 90% of photographers who purchase the Fujifilm 100-500 lens also purchase this plate. These photographers generally have Arca-type clamps on their tripods. These clamps are typically attached to the plate by a hex (allen-wrench) screw. Fujifilm seemed to be oblivious to this by providing an attachment screw that is tightened by a 25-cent coin, a quarter. The advantage of an allen-wrench screw is torque. The allen-wrench easily applies adequate torque to prevent the attachment from loosening. The first time that I used this lens I noticed after just a few shots that the attachment had loosened. I applied all the force that I could to tighten the connection, but it became loose again. A quarter simply cannot apply enough torque to make a solid connection. A 25-CENT PIECE IS A LOUSY WRENCH! IÆm really surprised that Fujifilm made such a silly error. I pointed this out to a Fujifilm representative at the recent Imaging USA in Nashville. All his said, FujiÆs mistake will not a deal breaker . . . I suspect that my loyalties to Fujifilm will remain strong. Check out the two images.
