Desmond DPLEX-50 50mm Arca-Swiss Compatible Quick Release Clamp Set

Fit real well on my tripod. Works great, I like the big knobs easy to turn. I actually used them separately on two different pieces of equipment. I'm buying another set for my monopod and flash bracket

For me this clamp set makes perfect sense: I have nodal and macro rails and at various times I want to alternatingly mount each of two types of configurations atop the rails: a) Arca-Swiss - compatible L-bracket, as well as b) 150mm Irix macro lens with Arca-Swiss - compatible foot. Given that optimal clamp mounting direction for a) is 90 degrees rotated from optimal clamp mounting direction for b), this clamp set allows me to use either configuration with a quick (maybe 15-second) loosening, rotation retightening of the screw binding the two clamps together in this set. No need for two separate styles of clamp; reduces gear clutter in the field when using the rails. And for the money, Desmond gear has an incredible value-to-quality ratio - extremely well made. Very happy with this clamp set.

This Product makes no sense. It is comprised of two Arca Quick Release plates configured back to back which I'm still scratching my head trying to figure out why this could possibly be useful. I suppose if you wanted to clamp a camera to a camera and throw them both out the window to die together since you are not using them anymore with this covid situation, maybe then? It is possible to dis-assemble this, which then yields one working piece plus another identical piece which you can't do anythign with as there is only one joining 3/8ths threaded connecting screw. So Thanks? I guess for the extra metal I can use as a paperweight as I can't outfit a second tripod with the extra adapter place because it is then missing a screw... at first I thought this was a mistake from the factory, like someone was messing around and screwed one to another... but it is photographed to look like how it arrived, so I think it's actually what is intended, and still makes no sense to me. If the product came with an extra screw then you would have two for the price of one but this seems like a very very custom type screw... without a part number I can find...

I recently bought the Nodal Ninja 6 (love it). BUT, I have an L-bracket on my camera for all the obvious reasons and don't want to take it off when I use the Nodal Ninja. The DPLEX-50 lets me clamp to the Nodal Ninja rail, rotate 90 degrees and clamp to the camera L-bracket. I just have to make sure I center the camera lens over the rail, then everything works perfectly.

The two clamps can be separated by removing the central screw and they're different. The meeting faces have an index stud on one side and four holes on the opposite so that the clamps can be rotated and set at 90 degree increments. The jaw on one clamp is slightly higher than the bottom face plane as it should be in order not to bind on the opposite clamp. The jaw of the other clamp, however is slightly lower than the face plane. The result is that when screwed together, one jaw gets held by the opposite clamp and when trying to open the jaw, the handle screws out but the jaw remains captive. This could be dangerous because it would seemingly retain pressure on the slide or the camera bracket but could pop open at any time that pressure from the opposite clamp got relieved. I solved this by shimming the two clamps with two layers of ordinary aluminum foil allowing the problem jaw to move without being affected by the pressure of the opposite clamp. It works fine and I would still recommend this, based on price, over that of a preferred competitor. I may ask someone at a machine shop to take a bit off the edge of the jaw to solve the bind but for now the aluminum shim works. the jaw cannot be removed (that I can see) to reduce the binding surface with a simple file. The parts are precisely made so I think the problem I've described above is an error in design rather than a poorly produced unit.
