Zing Designs Pro SLR Camera Cover

This case fits my new Nikon Z7 with Nikkor Z 50 mm f/1.8 S lens, a UV filter, and lens cap attached, though the fit is like a glove and not roomy. The case does not fit the Z7 with the lens and the rather large lens hood attached. If the lens hood is reversed (faces the camera body) and placed over the lens with lens cap, then the body, lens, UV filter, lens cap, and lens hood will fit in the case, but the fit is snug and not ideal. The case will also accommodate the Z7, the lens, and a Nikon SB400 Speedlight, though the case cannot be pulled over the ensemble. The case can be pulled over the flash unit leaving just the unit's lens exposed. That is sufficient for me given how I carry my camera around. See below.As the lens is offset horizontally from the body's center, the camera and lens do not fit the case as well as my 35 mm film cameras (Leica M6, M7, Nikon FM3a) with normal lenses (50 mm or 35 mm) fit their Zing cases. For those cameras, the body and lens with filter and lens hood attached fit with plenty of room. (If I attach a compact flash (SB-23 for the FM3a, SF 20 for the Leica M's), the flash can be partially covered by the case and that is sufficient for me. I leave the case partially open and that is OK given how I carry the camera around.)Despite the glove-like rather than roomy fit of the case for the Z7 with the 50 mm lens and the case's design for an on-center lens, I prefer the case to any other case, Zing or nonZing, with a longer or larger-diameter nose to accommodate a zoom, telephoto, or extreme wide-angle lens, as I do not use zoom lenses and I use my normal lenses (50 f/2 or f/1.8, 35 mm f/2) far more than my other fixed-focal-length lenses (from 20 mm to 85 mm for 35-mm format).I have been a fan of Zing neoprene camera cases for my 35 mm cameras for many years and just bought my first digital camera with the Z7 and wanted a Zing case for it. I like the fact that the case is flexible rather than rigid (allowing it to be flattened when not in use), has enough padding to protect the camera from injury from other equipment when in a backpack (the means by which I carry my 35-mm or medium-format film equipment) even if the case is partially open, is sufficiently water resistant, and can easily and quickly cover the camera with normal lens or be removed for picture-taking. If I wish to attach a longer or larger-diameter telephoto or wide-angle lens to a camera, I just store the camera and lens partially in the same Zing case without completely enclosing the camera.Any additional lenses are stored in Lenscoat lens pouches, so the lenses and camera are protected from each other and other things in my backpack. For the Z7, I may have to carry a small thick bubble wrap sheet to separate the camera and lens from other things in the bag with a telephoto or wide-angle lens attached or with the FTZ adapter and a Nikkor F mount lens attached. (With my Leicas or FM3a and the lenses I use, I do not need to use any additional padding, as the case is large enough to cover most of the camera and lens, even if the cover is partially open.) I prefer not to carry a second, larger case for those times when I have a larger lens attached or to carry a larger case all the time, as the larger case adds bulk that I do not need for normal use.The fact that the case is not waterproof is not of concern to me. In dealing with occasional rain or salt-water spray near the ocean, I enclose the camera and case in a plastic bag when I am carrying them outside my backpack with a neck strap around my neck or over my shoulder. If the camera and lens are removed from the case, I enclose both in a plastic bag with the opening of the bag facing toward the subject and the opening wrapped around the lens just behind the lens hood, leaving just the hood and filter exposed to rain or salt-water spray. I use a rubber band or Velcro hook-and-loop cable tie just behind the hood to hold the bag's opening tightly around the lens. I cut a small hole in the bag at the rear so that I can look through the viewfinder of my rangefinder, reflex, or now mirrorless camera.
