Essex Amphibie Overview
The Q2 Amphibie underwater camera housing from Essex lets you safely use your Lecia Q2 digital camera in the surf or the pool to capture spectacular photos and video. Designed specifically for the camera and depth rated to 33', the Q2 Amphibie offers access to all of the camera's controls— through a silicone soft cap for those on the top deck and a clear vinyl window for the LCD screen and back-panel controls. The front element is acrylic, but it can be swapped out for a 4.5" Tiffen clear filter if you prefer to shoot through glass. Access to the interior is from a hatch made of 3/8" laser-cut acrylic. Unlike housings that use buffers, shims, or pads to secure the camera, the Q2 Amphibie employs a seal screw with a rubber O-ring in the camera's tripod thread. It's simple and effective, and a spare seal screw comes with the housing. There's also a wing nut for the seal screw to water-test the housing without the camera.
A proprietary ESSEX Pufferfish silicone soft cap allows tactile control of the main switch, shutter button, thumbwheel, thumbwheel button, and shutter speed setting dial. ESSEX's Jellyfish vinyl rear window allows you to see and manipulate the LCD and play button, function button, menu button, directional pad, and center button.
The acrylic front element can be swapped out for a 4.5" Tiffen clear filter if the photographer desires to shoot through glass.
The 3/8" laser-cut acrylic hatch features stainless steel hardware to prevent corrosion and is easily operated with the included screw tool.
The camera is held securely in place with a seal screw into the camera's tripod socket, sealed with an O-ring— simple, secure, and watertight.
