MC versus MM
Typically, turntable systems come in two flavors: Moving Coil (MC) or Moving Magnet (MM). The V790 is designed to handle both with the selectable impedance and capacitance settings. Since MC systems tend to have low signal outputs, the 10 to 1000 ohms selection allows you to dial in the ideal output level, especially when used in conjunction with the robust gain boosting options.
MM turntable cartridges have higher outputs but suffer from lower inductance, which can negatively affect frequency response. Therefore, the V790 includes selectable capacitance settings ranging from 22 to 1000 pF, allowing you to find the ideal input capacitance for optimal sound quality.
