Utilizing FRS channels, the radio requires no license for operation so you can use it right away. Its NOAA weather alert radio with weather scan keeps you informed of impending rough weather conditions.
Each radio has a knob, buttons, and a large display for easy adjustments of volume, channel selection, menu, and more. The monitor button allows you to quickly adjust incoming transmission volume, while the scan button rapidly scans all channels for incoming transmissions, stopping at the first channel for four seconds with a current transmission before continuing to scan. With this radio, users can also take advantage of CTCSS (Continuous Tone-Coded Squelch System) and DCS (Digital-Coded Squelch) to communicate privately using one of the 121 privacy codes.
The built-in speaker and mic enable convenient and audible operation, and the adjustable VOX mode allows for hands-free transmission. Jacks are present for the connection of an external speaker, microphone, or headset. The radio can be powered by three AAA batteries (available separately) or a rechargeable battery pack (included). A desktop charger is included to charge both radios simultaneously.
