Atlas Sound Studio Boom Microphone Stand with Air Suspension and Casters (Up to 73', Ebony)

I'd been using OnStage stands in the studio and they were OK most of the time, but sometimes a little unstable with a heavy mic and a long extension. I record spoken word and usually like to get the mic over the tallent's head, pointing down. When working with tall tallent, I often had the stands stretched to their limits both in terms of extension and stability.So I ordered this stand for those situations. This is a heavy, serious stand. Very stable. Very large -- I wouldn't be able to use this in my home studio. On the other hand, there's no question I can get all the height I'll ever need and the stand is rock solid. On the downside, the air suspension doesn't seem to work that well for me. It looks like something I can fiddle with and get working right, but it wasn't working right as it came out of the box. It could just be my unit. It's not a critical item for me.Assembly was easy -- took about 20 minutes. All required tools (allen wrenches) were in the box. The biggest problem was manhandling the box into the studio (did I mention it's a heavy stand?)

I use four of these to record podcasts in a busy corporate setting. After two years of use, they still look and work like new. If you're using a larger, heavy microphone (such as the Electrovoice RE-20), the counterweight is very helpful. The base is heavy enough that we have never had to sandbag the stand, even with the boom at max extension. The casters are dependable and silent. This is an incredibly heavy, sturdy stand -- it is likely to be overkill for many situations. But wimpy stands generate years of hassles (and even ruined takes when poor construction lets the boom slowly sink). If you want to buy something dependable once so you can forget about it ever after, consider getting this brick house of a stand.

Super heavy duty stand. My only wish is that it had a higher riser - oh, and of course everyone always wants a little longer boom arm.

I have used this combination boom and stand in the studio for more years than I can remember. It's like a Neumann microphone...it's not a studio without one. Tuff, smooth and easy to use. Nothing bad to say about it.

The locking system on the stand ensures a safe support for a mic of any price. Assembly was very easy - you really don't need the included instructions. Aesthetically and functionally, the stand is a welcome addition to my studio. The only thing that surprised me in the negative was the packaging - two cardboard boxes weakly taped together. Holes pushed through the cardboard by the boom arm and stand tube. Luckily, no scratches on the finish were apparent.
