The nickel MK 8 Microphone Capsule from Schoeps is an interchangeable pressure gradient transducer for the Colette modular microphone system. It is used to capture audio for various instruments and vocal situations in applications such as recording studios, film shoots, live sound and more. It features a figure-8 pattern with a frequency range of 40 Hz to 16 kHz.
The MK 8 capsule is designed to not allow sound from the sides, from above or from beneath its main axis. Compared to a cardioid capsule in the same position this presents a different character. This figure-8 capsule features a rear lobe equal in sensitivity to its front lobe. Its main axis is at a right angle to the capsule, and is marked at 0° and 180° with a red and a black dot marked on the capsule. This capsule type is a true bidirectional transducer operating with a single diaphragm. Amicrophone amplifier is required.
Figure-8 pattern provides consistency across the frequency range
The capsule features a side-addressed pickup that is perpendicular to the microphone body
Optimal for use in M/S and Blumlein stereo recording
Frequency response is essentially free of off-axis peaks similar to a ribbon microphone but not as delicate physically
Lateral pickup
