The Cloud 44 Passive Ribbon Mic with Cloudlifter CL-1 Activator by Cloud Microphones is a versatile, rugged, and vintage-inspired ribbon mic with high-performance capabilities ideal for studio and broadcast recording applications. Based on the original RCA 44, this USA-made figure-8 mic has excellent side rejection properties and very high SPL resiliency, allowing it to reliably capture loud sound sources that you would never put a vintage 44 in front of for fear of damaging the mic.
Featuring a passive circuit design, Cloud Microphones ships the Cloud 44 with their patented Cloudlifter CL-1, with a matching black finish, to enhance not only the performance of the Cloud 44, but any other mics in your locker by boosting gain up to 25 dB using inline phantom power. This greatly enhances mic sensitivity without adding noise or color and works as well on the Cloud 44 as any dynamic, ribbon, or tube-powered microphone. Vintage inspired but modern made, the Cloud 44 inherits the personality and heritage of the original RCA 44 married with the robustness and reliability expected of a modern professional studio mic.
Passive Output
Unlike the Cloud 44-A, the Cloud-44 features passive circuitry ideal for capturing louder sources or when close-mic recording is desired. The figure-8 polar pattern features excellent side rejection for a number of these applications.
Vintage Inspired, Modern Made
The Cloud-44 uses the same ribbon motor design found in the original 1930 s RCA 44 microphone, all other parts have been upgraded using state of the art materials, manufacturing processes, and technology for a true modern classic.
Cloudlifter Included
While the Cloud 44-A hosted an active, internal Cloudlifter circuit built-in, the Cloud-44 ships with an external Cloudlifter CL-1 Midnight Edition Mic Activator for providing ultra-clean gain. This has the advantage of being able to match the external Cloudlifter with other ribbon, dynamic, or tube mics.
