A premium small-diaphragm condenser microphone built for exacting measurement applications and precise capture of instruments and room ambience, the dark bronze Microtech Gefell M 102 excels in the studio, on stage, or anywhere detail, accuracy, and low noise are of the highest priority. The modular design incorporates a certified measurement capsule and a preamplifier with transparent transformerless circuitry, yielding a 48V phantom powered microphone that provides highly stable transmission properties.

The M 102 s transducer is pressure operated, resulting in an omnidirectional polar pattern that delivers constant amplitude and phase characteristics as well as a flat frequency response across the 20 Hz to 20 kHz spectrum. Additionally, the lack of proximity effect allows the M 102 to be equally capable up close as a spot mic or placed at a distance for orchestral recording. It includes a mic holder and a wooden case.

Premium Measurement Capsule Technology

The M 102 combines high-quality measurement microphone capsule technology with a nickel metal membrane and a modular preamplifier. By using a certified measurement capsule combined with a 48V phantom-powered preamplifier, a constant amplitude and phase frequency response as well as particularly long-term stable transmission properties are achieved. A sound calibrator like the optional KAL 4010 can be used for optimal level adjustment if required.

Applications

The M 102 is particularly suitable for applications in which the lowest possible equivalent noise level is desired. It is recommended as the main microphone for recordings that should have a certain amount of space as well as a support microphone for the very close pick-up of instruments, where a faithful transmission of low frequencies is important. In addition, it can be used to set up multichannel main microphone arrangements such as AB stereophony or Decca Tree, for which it is particularly suitable with its precise and long-term stable transmission properties. The M 102 has excellent transient behavior and is therefore particularly suitable for holding instruments with a high pulse content.

Omnidirectional Transducer

The sound transducer is an externally polarized capsule with a diameter of 23.8mm with an extremely thin nickel metal diaphragm. This nickel diaphragm is grown in place on the metal structure of the microphone capsule, making it one uniform piece. The diaphragm structure is the same in all directions and is a pure sampler of the sound pressure wavewithout the distortions that can happen with other construction methods. The pressure transducer is omnidirectional and without any proximity effect.

Flat Frequency Response

Because of the free-field equalization, the M 102 has a constant frequency responsefrom below 20 Hz up to 20 kHz. The static pressure equalization between the capsule interior and the atmosphere is obtained via a tiny vent into the preamplifier.

Transformerless Circuitry

The transformerless circuit design of the electronic impedance converter with symmetrical output facilitates an output capability for sound pressures from 11 dBA up to 136 dB with a maximum of 0.5% THD (total harmonic distortion).

48V Phantom Powered

The microphone is operated with 48V phantom power in accordance with IEC 61938 and internally generates the necessary polarization voltage for the capsule of 200 V. The output is an XLR 3-pin male connector.
