Recommended for engineers seeking a punchy preamp with plenty of warmth on low frequencies, the RE-4K Cartridge from GC Audio is a preamp module designed exclusively for the Inherit Modular Preamp System. Designed as a reissue of the preamp in a famous British mixing console from the '80s, the RE-4K cartridge features plenty of improvements for the best possible results in modern recording scenarios.
When loaded into an Inherit chassis, the RE-4K provides a -20 dB attenuation pad for reining in overly hot signals. The combination of a low-noise op-amp and an original Jensen 115 input transformer provides excellent input balancing with exceptionally low distortion. Output symmetry, on the other hand, is manually calibrated to achieve optimum performance. Finally, the PCB features a carefully selected routing path for the most efficient signaling possible with this design.
Stepped Gain Control
A welcome feature of the RE-4K cartridge for pro engineers is stepped gain control, which is provided in 12 steps:
- 1 = 20 dB
- 2 = 28 dB
- 3 = 34 dB
- 4 = 38 dB
- 5 = 41 dB
- 6 = 44 dB
- 7 = 47 dB
- 8 = 50 dB
- 9 = 53 dB
- 10 = 56 dB
- 11 = 62 dB
- 12 = 70 dB
