GC Audio RE-73 Overview
Recommended for engineers seeking a punchy preamp with loads of coloration when pushed, the RE-73 Cartridge from GC Audio is a preamp module designed exclusively for the Inherit Modular Preamp System. Designed as a reissue of the preamp in a famous British mixing console from the '70s, the RE-73 cartridge features plenty of improvements for the best possible results in modern recording scenarios.
When loaded into an Inherit chassis, the RE-73 provides a -20 dB attenuation pad for reining in overly hot signals. The VTB9045 high-end shielded transformer protects against excessive EMI and works with the ultra-low noise transistors in the preamp for extremely quiet operation. Stepped gain control is digital on the RE-73, helping to further isolate the signal from any noise that might arise from the panel controls. Finally, the PCB features a carefully selected routing path for the most efficient signaling possible with this design.
Stepped Gain Control
A welcome feature of the RE-73 cartridge for pro engineers is stepped gain control, which is provided in 12 steps:
- 1 = 22 dB
- 2 = 27 dB
- 3 = 32 dB
- 4 = 37 dB
- 5 = 42 dB
- 6 = 57 dB
- 7 = 52 dB
- 8 = 57 dB
- 9 = 62 dB
- 10 = 67 dB
- 11 = 72 dB
- 12 = 77 dB
