Grimm Audio LS1be Two-Way Active Monitoring System (Pair, White Lacquer)

Styled in a white lacquer, the LS1be from Grimm Audio is an active all-in-one stereo speaker system designed to combine the best aspects of a high-fidelity system with the accuracy of professional studio monitors for demanding musicians, engineers, producers, and audiophiles. Part of the LS1 family, the LS1be is the top-tier option, taking the system's outstanding performance to new heights with a stunning finish and upgraded components. The speaker features an 8" magnesium Seas woofer, 1" Seas beryllium tweeter, and a heavy footplate. In addition, the LS1be has been carefully fine tuned during assembly to optimize the speaker for the best possible performance. The LS1i USB interface is also included, providing a direct connection to Mac or Windows computers and allowing the speaker to support digital PCM audio at resolutions up to 24-bit / 384 kHz (DXD) as well as the DSD64 & DSD128 formats.

The LS1 Flagship Speaker for Accurate High-Fidelity Monitoring

Grimm's flagship product, the LS1be takes the LS1 performance to the next level. Aiming to improve transparency even further by focusing on authority, control, and flow, the engineers at Grimm worked on lowering distortion and extending the linear audio band. The result is a speaker that delivers stunningly accurate monitoring for demanding professionals and a musical listening experience for serious sound connoisseurs. The speaker features an 8" Seas magnesium woofer and an upgraded 1" Beryllium tweeter, co-developed with Seas, that extends the frequency range and provides 9 dB less distortion than the original tweeter. Furthermore, the LS1be features lowered jitter, improved power supplies, and exclusive component selections, including silver power supply wiring for the finishing touch. In addition, the LS1be frequency response is linearized through smart use of DSP via a Computer Aided Calibration process during production.

The Acoustics

The flat, wide cabinet design lowers the baffle step frequency, allowing sound below the 250 Hz range to be radiated in all directions equally, while higher frequencies, where phase problems are more perceptible, are more forward focused. The rounded legs also help to reduce the deterioration of the stereo image, while the shallow cabinet moves the resonance along the depth axis inside the box, significantly above the crossover frequency of the 8" low-frequency driver, helping to avoid boxiness. Even dispersion is also helped by the lack of cone breakup effects in the magnesium woofer below the crossover frequency. The woofer's long excursion permits generous sound pressure capability down to 40 Hz for the two-way configuration. The 1" Seas tweeter's exceptionally low distortion in the midrange allows a fairly low crossover frequency that benefits vertical dispersion. Its small constant-directivity horn ensures an even spread of high-frequency sound.

The Electronics

Digital input signals are re-clocked by a state-of-the-art ASRC circuit, which is based on the same oscillator as the legendary Grimm CC1 clock. Analog inputs are first converted to digital with a high-performance A/D converter. The signal then enters the DSP, which has a datapath of 48-bit wide with a 76-bit accumulator. Each driver then has its own high-quality D/A converter. The output of the D/A converters is directly fed into 120W Hypex Ncore power amplifiers. The optional LS1s subs have an additional 400W amp each. Hypex Ncore power amplifiers have extremely low harmonic distortion and are the perfect choice for the LS1a due to their linearity and excellent transient response. Throughout the whole circuit, careful attention has been paid to component selection like capacitors and resistors. Critical parts, such as power supply regulators, are of Grimm's own discrete design.

Analog & Digital Connectivity

The LS1be has versatile connections for analog and three digital AES/EBU sources. The system also includes the LS1i USB audio interface, allowing any computer to become your audio source. The LS1r remote controller or an MU1 music player (both available separately) allow for convenient control of volume and source selection.

Subwoofer Available Separately

An LS1be covers the full-frequency range as an elegant two-way system. By adding an optional SB1 subwoofer set, the LS1be becomes a very-low distortion three-way loudspeaker that can handle all music styles in any size room. The optional advanced Digital Motional Feedback (SB1) subwoofer has an impressive 30 dB lower distortion, which means the bass area is now just as transparent as the mid and treble.
