Chandler TG Channel MKII - EQ and Mic/Line Preamp
The Chandler Limited TG Channel MKII is a single-rackspace EQ and mic/line preamp with a vintage sound. Its circuit design comes from classic studio gear used at Abbey Road Studios during the Beatles era.
The EQ contains both passive and active sections, and uses circuitry replicated from the TG12410 Transfer, a console that was the mastering counterpart of the Beatles Desks. Chandler used the original design information and circuit-board drawings, which were provided by Abbey Road. The passive portion of the EQ is all inductor based. The active part uses discrete amplifiers and transformers from Chandler Limited s TG1 Limiter and the TG2 preamp. The EQ sound has been compared to that of Pultec and Lang program EQs, but with TG circuitry.
The preamp section comes from the TG2, which is based on the EMI TG12428 preamp, also from Abbey Road. The output knob functions like a console fader, allowing you to adjust the output to compensate for the input level. As a result, you can push the input without distorting your recorder.
The TG Channel MKII is powered by Chandler Limited s PSU-1 power supply, which must be purchased separately.
Vintage Design
Circuitry replicates that of gear used in Abbey Road Studios during the Beatles era, including the TG12410 Transfer console and the EMI TG12428 preamp.
Input Control
Governs either the 600a„¦ mic input or the 10ka„¦ line input. The 15-position switch gives a large range of control for normal and not-so-normal uses.
Direct In
Bypasses the mic-in transformer and jacks directly into the high-impedance microphone circuitry
Output Control
Functions as a console fader and is placed after the input stage and before the output stage. It allows for trimming of the input signal, and lets the user run the input very hot (for extra coloration) without distorting the recorder.
Front-Panel Switches
Phase, Mic/line, EQ, and 48V phantom power.
High Boost
A capacitor-based high-boost control with 18 dB of gain and a shelving characteristic.
Mid Boost
An inductor-based mid-frequency peak with 18 dB of boost and a high Q switch to sharpen the curve.
Mid Cut
A mid-frequency EQ with 20 dB of cut and six frequency points set at a very sharp Q. It s specially designed to fix problem areas.
Low Boost
The Low Boost control has 20 dB of gain and a select switch that combines shelf and peak settings.
Low Cut
The Low Cut switch has five positions and the slope is relatively gentle.
