Tackle difficult sources with ease and make the most of your studio with the 1972 Preamplifier from Drawmer, a versatile 2-channel, 19 , 1 RU mic/line preamp and DI unit with features not found on many other preamps. Two pristine microphone preamps with +66 dB of clean, stepped gain combine with ±12 dB of output trim for plenty of headroom, and switchable microphone impedance makes it simple to bring out the best in your passive dynamic and low-impedance ribbon mics.
When your signals are still giving you trouble with their low levels, the unique Lift function provides an ideal solution, dynamically adding gain to signals below 0 dB when it s needed, and the dual vintage-style moving coil VU meters let you keep an eye on levels at all times. The 1971 includes the full range of professional features expected in a studio preamp too, such as phase reversal, a +10 dB pad per channel, linkable shape buttons, which provide boost/cut tilt EQ, and variable low- and high-pass filters. The 1971 includes an AC power cord to get you started right away.

Get Creative with Variable Mic Impedance
You may have encountered the general rule that the impedance of the preamp input should be 10x that of the mic to get an input impedance that is appropriate for the mic and to avoid loading the source. However, it is less known that mismatching can create some interesting tonal differences that can be used more creatively.
The 1972 has 3 settings per mic input: 200, 600, and 2400 ohms, making it easy for you to explore the various tones. The result will depend on the microphone used and the material you re working with, as the tonal changes will be obvious with some mic s and compositions, but not with others.
